Mac having slow responce time...

Hey guys so I have this macbook pro and it keeps giving me the beach ball...It seems weird to me because it isn't getting hot or anything. it boots up like normal and opens up applications like normal as well...except when opening safari..or any browser that I have tried. I have tried using chrome and firefox as well as opera and I've been having the same results. As I was trying to check my model number it took the mac about a full minute to open up the options. If anybody could tell me how to fix this problem that would be great thanks (FYI I have nothing else opened other than safari)

Running osx 10.8.5

Mid 2010

4gbs ram

2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 3MB on-chip shared L2 cache

171.03 gbs/ 250gbs

Try a nice new fresh install--makes everything better.

Press CMD + Space bar for spotlight and type in 'activity monitor' and check your RAM usage because it may be that your MacBook Pro needs more RAM or it might just be ageing hardware

Add a SSD, that will help tremendously, also upgrade to 8GB of RAM if you are still having problems after that.

Did you reset the SMC ?
