Ok so if I have 2 drives in raid 1 and one of them dies(using a intel raid controller) how do I know which drive died and how to I replace do I just turn off the computer plug out the drive and put a knew one and turn the PC and will it just work and rebuild right away, or what do I do.

The Intel Rapid Storage Tech. app will alert you and even send you an e-mail if you configured that. It will identify which drive and port, its up to you to know which drive is actually on which port to yank  the right one in the physical world.

 

If you haven't installed the Rapid Storage Tech. app you should be doing that right about now.

You can do it there as well but there are other tools depending on if its hardware or software RAID.

When you boot, rapid storage will tell you that the raid is degraded, which means on of the drive has died. It will show you which one by serial number
