Hello everyone!

I have a small doubt here.

I have an AMD FX-6300 and I'd like to overclock it to 4100MHz, my mobo is a Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2 and a 600w PSU, I also have a Corsair H60 Water Cooler (I live in Brazil and my city in particular is very hot, that's why I got this).

The thing is, do I have to mess with voltage and other things or I can just disable turbo mode on bios and set the multiplier to 20.5?

If I only increase the multiplier (CPU-Z says it should work from 7 to 20.5, it's on 19 most of the time, leaving the CPU at a constant 3800MHz, sometimes dropping to 3500 and very rarely going up to 4000) it'll be unstable and fail or it shoule work fine?

I don't really wanna make an insane overclock, just lock it at it's top factory speed.

Can you guys give me any hint?

Here's how my CPU is like 95% of the time (multiplier and core speed).

Full specs in case it's relevant:

AMD FX-6300 (watercooled by Corsair H60)

Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2 Rev 1.0 (with F5 bios)

1x8GB DDR3 Corsair Dominator 1866 (Running @ 1333MHz thanks to mobo limitations)

Gigabyte Radeon R9 270X Windforce OC

Corsair CX600 Builder Series V2

Windows 8.1 Pro x64

Thanks in advance!

you should be able to lock it at that speed turning off the boost and set the multiplier to x20.5. disable the c6 or whatever sleep/power saving states. Then double check with Aida64/Y-Cruncher for stability and monitor temps. Even if it is successful, you might even be able to lower the voltage if lucky.

I'm running a similar set up:

GA990fxa-ud3

6300

500w psu

Corsair H60

My chip runs at 4.2ghz comfortably. CPU multiplier at 21, bus speed at 200mhz, and core voltage at 1.4v. Pretty stable for me. You should be able to achieve at least the same with yours, maybe even a little higher with your psu. But watch for temps, if you're in a hot area your temps will be a lot higher then mine.

I am whatever I am.

Be wary of the CPU and mobo temps

you mobo do not have heatsinks for the VRMs

once they overheat, your CPU will be starved of power and the speed will drop very drastically

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

I'll try locking it at 4000MHz with turbo disabled and check the temps see if they stay inside the "normal range".

By the way, I use HWMonitor to check that stuff, should I go for something better or it is good enough?

Right now my temps are like this:

post-122699-0-88170300-1409199460_thumb.

(I don't know why my graphics card name is shown as AMDKMDAP now, before I updated the driver it was R9 200 series)

Today is a kinda cold day, temps going from 15ºC to 20ºC, usually it's 25~30ºC.

Most of the time I check my CPU temps they are around 15~20ºC and never saw it higher than 38ºC while playing.

I never really noticed the average temps for my mobo, usually I just check CPU and GPU temps.
