iPad Mini died!

Hey there guys, I have the first iPad mini, and haven't used it for months. Now I wan't to use it, I plug it in to charge, but it can't seem to turn on. There's just a battery bar with very thin red vertical lines. It doesn't seem to be charging, and can't switch on. Will it be able to, or is something wrong?

Leave it for a while, the battery is quite big, and can take a while to charge

If it's anything like when power tool batteries are 'too dead', then unplugging and plugging the plug quickly for a couple of times will force it to start charging.

(wouldn't recommend it unless it doesn't charge at all)
