I'm looking for a pair of headphones that have really good positional audio for competitive gaming but also has really good audio quality.

I have a budget of about £175 but I wouldn't really like to reach that much unless I really need to.

Could anybody recommend a pair of headphones like this?

I was thinking of the razer tiamat 7.1 but I feel like it would probably have pretty bad audio quality compared to other headphones in that price range.

Also if the headphones are cheap enough would it be worth investing an Asus xonar essence stx with them? I have the on board audio on the ranger VII and that's advertised to be good audio but I'm pretty much a noob to audio.

Thanks, Pineapple Wolf

Price (least to greatest)

Hd518, ad700x, hd558, q701.

These are pretty much the best for the price range. All of them are all open backed.

I've looked at some reviews and for about £115 I can get the 558s. But if spend a bit more are there any better headphones?

For gaming in particular? Not really... the AD700x might be a BIT better but at this point, it's a matter of preference and different hearing.

Depends if you want closed-back or open headphones though... if you prefer closed-back than the Audio-Technica M50x will be a better fit for your needs.

If we're gonna completely ignore the M40X, then sure.

I would have recommended them if it didn't require 120ohms. I don't think the op wants to buy a amp/dac with his budget.

It can still run on most onboards. You do have to turn it up a bit though. I think I had it to like 80-85% on my Maximus VI Gene
