Computer freezes 10 seconds after start up.

Hey guys, I built a rig about 3 months ago and it recently started freezing after logging in after it has sat overnight. I then hard reset it and it's fine for the rest of the time until I shut it off for a significant amount of time such as 3 hours. I am running windows 7 and a friend suggested that it may be because a recent windows update got corrupted. My update history says that it happened about a week ago so that is feasible. If that is the case what can I do about it, if not what else could be wrong? Thanks!
