Computer shuts down less than 1 second after startup.

Hello, I have just built a new pc for the first time. Ive done the wiring for the front ports and everything correctly from what it seems. I just hit the start button on my system and it shuts down, fans start up for half a second and shut back down. I do not have a speaker connected as the one that came with my pc broke. The specs are listed here http://pcpartpicker.com/p/jqppQ7 for any help I get. Have a great day!

I don't see the specs of the pc. Have you tried an out of the case test before you placed it in the case?

It may possibly need the BIOS update, as stated by PCPartPicker, to use that CPU.

You will need a Haswell (non-Refresh) CPU to update the BIOS though.

Updated. And no I didnt test it before I put it in the case. Rookie mistake.

Is the CPU fan header connected?

Are all the power cables properly connected?

Yes.

Take all the RAM out except one stick, take the GPU out, basically only leave the stuff in that is absolutely neccessary to start it up, then go part by part to filter out the dead component.

I did, I think what may have happened is that while taking my computer components of of my car my ram fell about 4 feet in a very slim cardboard package. I believe this is the corporate now. I will tell you when I get more info.

do you have a stock cooler? i had the exact same issue today, but i have a custom cooler, make sure your coolers screws are really tight

Yeah its a stock cooler.

Are you saying Ill need a non-haswell cpu to update the bios?

To update the BIOS, you would need a CPU that is not part of Haswell Refresh/Devil's Canyon.

Any of these will do, though you should be able to contact MSI and get the BIOS chip for your motherboard with the most recent BIOS.

i cant look at the link right now(at work and its blocked), but from the comments it sounds like you've got a z87 motherboard with a haswell refresh cpu, which will not work without a bios update. which would be totally ok, if you didnt need a cpu to update the bios.. so if you can get your hands on a nonrefresh cpu, then update your bios, itll start working perfect

Could you possibly link me to where I can contact them for the BIOS chip? That would be splendid.

yep same issue. needs a bios update. like @TheSLSAMG mentioned, you may be able to just get a bios chip from msi. possibly less hassle than purchasing a new cpu, using it to update, then returning it. unless you happen to have one of the cpus he listed laying around somewhere, like another computer

I have contacted them and they said that I would just need to get a older processor to update. Thanks for the help anyway!
