Can someone please tell me how do the Asus AI 3 suite? I've watched this video about overclocking my CPU but what I watched compared to what my AI suite looks is different. Here is a link to the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BoaAT5TkXc4

First Question what is and How do I use this panel?

http://gyazo.com/14091197e00e021497ae555b5654bb14

Second Question. What is and how do I use this panel?

http://gyazo.com/59d1654e5a4a3adf4fe9171c790d5482

Third Question. My processor is a Intel Core i7 3.6Ghz quad core CPU. So why is it in the AI suite 3 it's show my MHz at 3800.1 on Idle?

http://gyazo.com/4f115f4bb06a1ffa800be524d128a214

I want to learn how to SAFELY overclock without destorying my very nice system. Am I suppose to use the auto button seen here?

http://gyazo.com/4b62befebaeec2fb58f136bf503a6f61

If someone could PLEASE explain to me in full detail what exactly all these panels mean that would most helpful!

Thank you in advance

on your profile it says you have a 4790, is it a 4790k? if not you can't really overclock it short of changing the base clock.

It's the Intel Core i7 4790. Why is it showing a clock speed that is higher then 3.6Ghz if it's on idle and goes up to 4000Mhz on full load? What is it really doing? http://gyazo.com/24a77a3354278b616e6463b78b3b0c0f (See image for what CPU-Z says)

That's intel's Turbo Boost function, the 4790 has a Turbo clock of 4.0Ghz that it will go to if the temperature is low enough. Turbo boost dynamically boosts the core clock based on thermal conditions. Like I said though if it's not a K skew chip it can't be overclocked with the multiplier. You can probably get a couple hundred MHz out of tweaking the baseclock but that's it. You dun goofed basically.

So even on idle, It will run at 3800Mhz which is above the stock 3.6? How do I boost the base clock? Is it worth having the AI Suite 3 auto tune? Or is it better to do it myseld?

On idle it won't boost, or at least shouldn't but that will be based on the the bios settings. There are idle states where the CPU will downclock itself to reduce heat generation and power consumption and that can be turned off to make it run as fast as possible at all times. In addition Turbo Boost is automatic when it's enabled you cannot control it, as far as AI suite is concerned there is a setting for baseclock tuning and maybe it can tweak it so it's worth a try.

So my question comes back to what do these two panels do and control? How do I use them?
