So I have an oem desktop that I have to use for at least 6 months. It features an i5-2320 @3.00GHz, integrated graphics and 4 GB of RAM.

Currently I am maxing out the 4 GB of RAM so I AM buying 8 GB set (maybe 2x4 GB or 1x8 GB), but with all the new m.2/sata express, ddr4, 4k, usb type c and Windows 9, I am lost at if I should keep this system for a while longer and upgrade when those prices are down and affordable.

I was originally planning on building next summer and getting a CPU from the Intel Edge program, but I was wondering if I should just keep this system a while longer with 8GB of RAM and use it while I wait for DDR4 and the other stuff. I do a little gaming, nothing intense.. started Hearthstone not too long ago. I usually multitask a lot (so a lot of Chrome tabs) for school. In the future, I do want to get into more games and editing programs.

My main question is wait and upgrade or build new.

If I should just keep my system, besides the RAM, what should I upgrade?

I live in Canada.

Thanks

By waiting and upgrading your upgrade you won't lose much, the x99 that are going to come are going to be really expensive and DDR4 ram sticks as well... I recommend definitely wait and make that small upgrade and maybe go for Z97 boarda and CPU? 4690K maybe?

Nevermind all of this, price is probably too high.

Sandy Bridge i5 is still more then adequate. Get more RAM and a 750 Ti

Is it worth waiting for DDR4 and sata express or is the difference negligible? I am just not sure if I will be in the intel edge program after next year because I might change jobs.

Budget for a new pc would be around $1000+ CAD. It pretty much goes down to skip Broadwell and go to Skylake or later.

you could upgrade to a video card, such as a r7 250, 8gb of ram and then later upgrade your mobo and cpu.

Since I am using an oem pc I don't want to just upgrade the mobo and cpu haha. Need to change the case/psu as well.

No. The extra bandwidth DDR4 and SATA Express won't make a noticeable difference for quite a while.
