Steam game sharing issue

I have an old steam account with one game on it and I wanted to request access of that game from the old account to my main (newer) account.  When I try to do so, I get an error message saying that the older account doesn't exist, but I've logged into the old account a number of times (including once today).  Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong? Thanks for the help.
