Hey guys! So I just wanted to make a Terraria Server for me and my friends. I intend to make the In game Hosting one. For that, I have to port forward. I have a D-link 2750u. I just saw some guides for that too. Now, I want to make sure about my IP.

In CP*, It says I have a Dynamic Ip ( DCHP Enable ...........................YES)

So first I have to change it to Static right? I just want to know if it's really safe and stuff like that.

Can someone give me a perfect guide for:

Static IP thing. (I googled, but I want something better :P )

Port Forwarding on D-Link 2750u ( " "         " " )

I know I'm asking too much, but still...

CP* : Command Promt of course..

Thanks :)

Go to Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings > Right click, properties on your network adapter > Select Internet Protocol Version 4 > Properties > check Use the following IP address > type in an address within your routers range of addresses. This is for Windows 7, assume its the same for 8 if you have that.

Edit: I don't think they actually type in your computers IP address for that because it is just a local address, not really sure how to set up a server normally on Terraria, I've always just used Hamachi, makes everything much easier, I recommend you just use that. Also, a static address compared to a dynamic just means your router will keep your network adapter at the same address (the one you give it) with dynamic (DHCP) it just assigns a random one within the range of addresses.

A static address on your server will make portforwarding easier. So do as explained above to change your servers dhcp address to static.

The next thing you want to do is Google. Whats my ip. This will give you your external ip address. The one your friends will have to use to connect to you.

If your port forwarding has worked once they have typed your external ip in to the game they should connect to your server.

I dislike things like hamachi as they just cause more problems or add latency people have to install it and have extra stuff running in the background. Etc etc. There are better solutions to that software.

Post back if you have problems or if you get it working. I will say how to point your own free domain to your ip so you don't have to give your ip out all the time.

I will look at how to do your portforwarding latter on the router if someone doesn't beet me to it
