XFX HD7970 Backplate.

Hi All

I have a non-reference HD7970 from XFX, unfortunately I am a little worried due to its length and lack of support in my case that its sitting slightly wonkey and I don't like how unsupported the side of the card furthest from the back of the case is, so I wanted to buy a custom backplate to A ) improve appearance and allow me to mount a LED strip along (if I get one) my second cards top and B ) better support and prevent flex within the card.

So I was wondering if anyone had any experiance with these EK backplates

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=WC-260-EK

And furthermore if anyone had mounted them to a non-reference Radeon, in particular this one.

With this backplate work with my graphics card? If so how do I fit it, just remove the screws put the block in and put new screws in to hold it all down?

1. I dont think the backplate will work with your gpu.

2. I dont think it will give your cards extra strengh

3. I dont think your card needs extra strengh when you have mounted it in the 2 pci slots and the pcie connector.

Yes the EK back plate will fit, but unfortunately  the EK water block will not :(

Hmm ok, well I think if possible I might try to get one that fits anyway just for appearance sake, and like I said if I get a second card I want an LED strip on the bottom card which woulden't be possible without a backplate.

Yes the EK back plate will fit, but unfortunately  the EK water block will not :(

Ok, so do I need the waterblock for the backplate to functionally fit on the card? Or can I just mount the backplate on the card, keep the stock XFX heatsink and have a nice looking back of my card?

No the backplate will fit on just fine, the back plate only has 4 screws that you need to put it on and all 4 screws that need to be installed, line up perfectly. The waterblock does not line up correctly as were the extra screws are, there are to many to mount it on :( and most of them do not line up with eachother :(

Ok thanks a lot, think I might buy a couple when I buy my second GPU then, put LED strips on the backplates and it should look pretty nice.

Ive been meaning to for a while but due to a few RMAs required throughout the process and items generally arriving at different times its all a work in progress, even when the PC is done I intend to completely redo my desk to better accommodate everything, this will take a while due to parts on order and so on. so yeah one day hopefully, there will be a build log, guess I can do some in progress ones.
