I'm currently writing a 20GB file to my new NAS and it is only transferring at around 1MBps.

What's wrong?

Does the problem lie with my router (Linksys EA 4500), my usb wireless adapter (Belkin N300), or my NAS (Netgear ReadyNAS duo v2)?

Your USB WiFi adapter is most likely your bottleneck. Check the bandwidth of your connection in Task Manager. It will likely be less than 54Mbps that 802.11G is capable of. Which will top out at a ~6MBps transfer speed. And even if your bandwodth is greater, if there is a lot of interference and error correcting going on, then your throughput will be hampered.

That said...There are a number of anomolies that Windows 7 & 8 can introduce to network transfers due to some error correcting it tries to do. Especially when transfering to devices that arent Windows 7 or 8. I believe there is a setting/service you can disable that can clear it up.

I'm getting around 15Mbps.

I would try plugging in a network cable and test that way to see if it is a wireless bottleneck. After that it may be the NAS device, what kind of NAS is it?

The NAS I have is Netgear ReadyNAS duo v2 currently with one 2TB Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM.

15Mbps = ~1.9MBps throughput. So yeah you are limited to around the 1MBps copy speed. You need to find a way to get a better signal. Get the router & adapter in better positions that get them as clear a signal as possible.

With those speeds you might seriously look at re-configuring your network setup if that machine is your daily driver. Up until now, I have been iffy on recommending powerline networking. But I encouraged a friend of mine to try it and he has seen great results. Not saying it WILL work, but I trust it a bit more than I had in the past.

EDIT: In my poking around, I realized you were using Win8. I also noticed that they no longer state your link speed in TaskManager like they did in Vista/7. So take my signal woes with a grain of salt for now. Gonna look into this.

EDIT2: They show it in the status window of the adapter. This link shows how to get there. I was just so used to having it listed in the TaskManager.

my max receive is 500kbps and it does have that in windows 8 (one thing I like : task manager) in the performance tab in wifi.

What they are showing in the task manager is your current utilization. They are not listing the maximum speed the connection is currently capable of. In Win7 and lower it was listed there along with current utilization speed and percentage. What does the status window on your WiFi adapter say?

Your problem is that you are using wireless, even if you have a reliable 300 Mbps wireless connection, you are actually going to get speeds of around 50Mbps. Then you have look into other bottlenecks, like if you are using a FastEthernet connection between the NAS and the Router. Also if you are going to have a high end router, in order to see any tangible benefits use a wireless NIC that is also high end, and some times but not allways when you use a linksys router with a linksys adapter you can see higher data rates.

Ok firstly I have that nas and it will transfer at 50 megabytes a second on gig abit lan so it is not the nas. It will be the wifi card which will be able to transfer around 5 megabytes of data a second and your router will be the same

I think you have your MB/s and mbit mixed a little, 90MB/s which you have on the screenshot is very fast! (720mbit) Your average hard drive can't write with much more then that.
