So, recently my friend's mom's laptop died, and she got a new hard drive for it, because that is typically what goes in a computer

But, I visited yesterday, and nothing came out of it. It turns out the motherboard was dead. But, end of that story

So, I have a couple of oldish laptops laying around, so I decided to fix one up and give it to her.

I currently have an HP G72 laying around.
I tried to plug it in, and turn it on.

Currently, the lights turn on, and then 2 seconds later, it turns off.

It doesn't make any beeps. The fan turns on during that 2 seconds as well.

The thing doesn't have a hard drive, but I don't think that is the problem

I took out the RAM to see if that would help, but it doesn't; same results

I don't think the motherboard is dead, because the CPU heats up, and it charges a battery

Any suggestions?

I'd suggest that you put one stick of RAM in and the hard drive - if that doesn't work, it's probably dead.
