WD green issues

07gillia

I just bought  a new WD green 2tb drive for my pc. I already have a 120gb ssd and a full 1tb HDD. The rest of my setup is a z77 asus sabertooth, i7 2600k, 16gb RAM and 2 x R9 290. I have plugged in both sata data and power connectors to the new drive, it appears in both bios and device manager but not in disk management or this PC. i am running windows 8.1 64bit.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Could you reboot?
Do you hear sounds from the drive?

It should be in Disk Manager...

I'd suggest trying a different Sata port, possibly the one that the 1tb drive is on, your Sata port may be having issues.

It's probably DOA, you should contact the seller and ask for a replacement

Oh maybe if you uninstall the drivers (Device manager), unplug it and reconnect it

Hey 07gillia,

you can try and search for your drive under Other devices in Disk Management. These are all the devices that Windows doesn't yet understand. Your new drive should be there without a letter or information.

From there, you should be able to first partition the drive, making this partition an Active/Primary one, not a bootable one as you already have a boot drive. Then you need to format it.

After all of this you should reboot and your drive has to show up everywhere as ready to use.

For more information on how to do these you could read this topic:

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-vista/formatting-disks-and-drives

I hope I've helped!

Best of luck!

If you think I helped, like!  :P
