The 4790k is essentially a "modified" 4770k, designed to overclock better and run cooler.

So then why don't all the people that have the 4770k get the 4790k for the few extra dollars and more performance?

Because the 4790k was only just released a little while ago.  IE: most people already owned 4770k's.

Also, in other places other than the US, the 4790k can fetch quite a price increase.

Can the i7 be used for gaming just as well as the i5? (on top of rendering/editing)

yes, it will perform 1-5% better then the i5 in games

only difference bewteen a 4770K and a 4790K is the higher boostclock and inproved TIM which results in lower temps and possible higher overclocks

Strange here in Australia where it is renowned for being overpriced for pc parts is only about $15 more.

When it was released, I'm fairly sure I saw it going for $100 more over the 4770k in certain parts of the world, it was a bit stupid.

imo, its not even worth the 15 dollars, people have gotten marginally better overclocks with them (0.1-0.3 Ghz more)

$15 for lower temperatures and higher clock speeds is totally worth it, unless you ALREADY have a 4770k.

The 4770k is an older product, released last year, with the 4790k only being released not a while ago. The 4790k is designed to be a better overclocker and with that, designed to run alot cooler. I mean, what's the point of buying a 4790k when you already have a 4770k?

The i7 can be used for gaming, on top of rendering or editing. But, if your main purpose if to just play games, then go for the i5 series.

"Sulit" (adj.) something that is worth it

i7 8700K 4.8Ghz delidded / Corsair H100i V2 / Asus Strix Z370-F / G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16GB 3200 / EVGA GTX 1080Ti FTW3 / ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q

Samsung 850 EVO 500GB & 250GB - Crucial MX300 M.2 525GB / Fractal Design Define S / Corsair K70 MX Reds / Logitech G502 / Beyerdynamic DT770 250Ohm

SMSL SD793II AMP/DAC - Schiit Magni 3 / PCPP

Old Rig

i5 2500k 4.5Ghz | Gigabyte Z68XP-UD3P | Zotac GTX 980 AMP! Extreme | Crucial Ballistix Tactical 16GB 1866MHz

If it's your opinion, why do you have a 4690k instead of a 4670k? lol, seems a bit hypocritical :P
