I am going to be starting my new build in the upcoming weeks and I thought that before I do it might be a good idea to get some advice from some fellow tech enthusiasts. I am really looking to have a system that is very good for gaming but I will also be using it as an everyday computer to do schoolwork and ordinary browsing of the web.

BUILD HARDWARE:

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-4790K 4.0GHz LGA 1150
  • MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte GA-Z97X-Gaming 7 LGA 1150 ATX
  • GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 770 4GB Dual Superclocked w/EVGA ACX Cooler PCIe 3.0 Video Card
  • CASE: Corsair Graphite Series 760T Full Tower Arctic White
  • MEMORY: Corsair Vengeance Series 8GB DDR3-1600 PC3-12800
  • HDD: WD Black 1TB 7,200 RPM SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal
  • SSD: Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 120GB SATA 6.0GB/s 2.5"
  • PSU: Corsair RM750 Series 750 Watt ATX Modular Power Supply
  • CPU COOLER: Cooler Mater Hyper 212 EVO
  • OS: Can't decide between Windows 8.1 and Windows 7

I will be buying all of these parts from Micro Center and am looking for it to be a $1500 build (the ssd puts it over a little but it's not that big of a deal).

I look forward to any comments of advice or criticism. Thank You

Looks good, although I'd go with a 2gb 770 if you're going to be playing at 1080p

also a i5 4690k instead of the i7 for gaming

you could probably cut enough off the price by getting a 4690k to get a 780 instead of a 770 4gb

I don't see an Aftermarket CPU Cooler listed... If you want a balling looking system you can't have that stock cooler :P. I wouldn't get the 4gb GTX 770 it's not worth the extra money you might as well get an R9 290 which will perform way better.  You can get Windows 8.1 here for only $21.34 https://www.g2a.com/windows-8-professional-32-64-bit-cd-key-global.html. Also if you're only gaming and doing light tasks go with the i5 4690k

Life.exe is missing

I was having trouble finding a decent aftermarket CPU cooler, but if I go with the i5 4690k then I still don't have one in mind because they are both 1150's. Pertaining to the GPU, I want to go in the direction of EVGA I am familiar with their hardware and I have never had trouble with it.  I will probably get the 780 if I go with the i5 4690k.

Welcome to the forum!

Thank you for the welcome. I completely agree with you. Actually, I originally had the i5 4690k with the 780 setup in mind but a friend of mine suggested that I go with the i7.

He's correct. The i7 is technically an 8 core processor. 4 logical cores and 4 physical cores. The Hyperthreading technology technically makes it an 8 core. For example the FX 8350 isn't more of an 8 core than that processor. In about a year games will use the full potential of the 4790k and i5s will be outdated. You have a great build. I have the same processor I recently got at Micro Center. Do you go to the one in Mayfield or Columbus?

So do you think I should stick with the 4790k and the 770 or downgrade the cpu and upgrade the gpu? And, Columbus.

Keep the 4790k. As for the GPU get the 2GB version and invest in an aftermarket CPU cooler. A CM 212 EVO will do just fine.

I think the Gaming 5 should do the job as good as the gaming 7 while being cheaper

People may hate Windows 8.1 but if you get 7, you will be massively outdated in a years time.  When Windows 9 comes out, you will be 2 OS' behind, thats like being on XP instead of 7!  ;)  Plus Windows 8.1 isn't bad at all, you can download a start menu and don't have to use the tiles system.  Nice build though pal
