im about to buy a monitor for my PC build i quite like the dell u2414h however after doing a lot of research online it seems this beautiful monitor is plagued with problems. mainly in the department of displayport, which is the connection i intend to use with the monitor. I need to know are the problems (being seen as an HDTV by Nvidia cards, limited RGB range) fixed? i.e was it just the first shipment of monitors that had the problem? Is there a simple workaround for the probs?

if the problem isnt fixed i was wondering what other alternatives around a similar price range are there? Because honestly if it doesnt work right out the box its not worth it.

The reports of the problem seem to be from around the start of the year on Dell's forums. You'd think they would have released a new revision that fixes the issues. I'd take the chance and get one. The warranty on Ultrasharp monitors is excellent if you get a dud. They'll let you keep the monitor til the replacement arrives and they pay shipping both ways, so it's not much of an inconvenience.

I own this monitor. I recently bought it about 3 weeks ago. It is worth the money however there are problems with the monitor, like you mentioned there is a limit on the RGB when using display port on Nvidia GPUs however you can fix this using this http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?p=83. The touch buttons are just fine but I would prefer hardware buttons but that is obvious. The USB Hub is a really nice feature however for me it doesn't work on USB 3.0 and I wouldn't hook too much up to it because it won't be able to power 2 keyboards and mouse at the same time. The panel quality is outstanding, great quality and great colour reproduction. The bezels are really thin which is both good and bad. Good thing is it's thin but the problem with that is the monitor is delicate around the edges. Good idea not to bash it because it will probably break. Also the tilt function is really nice but make sure the corner doesn't hit anything or the base because you could damage the panel. No light bleed on mine at all and there is also no dead or stuck pixels.

I plan on buying another because I am very happy with it.

the features, look and quality of the monitor is the reason i wanted it in the first place. Tbh it was just reading about the problems that worried me. Some were even saying their PCs wouldnt even detect the monitor if it was plugged in using DP or HDMI. Saying that i think i'll stick with it and see how it goes once it arrives

Oh I forgot to mention that. You can set to display the monitor in either 1.2 or the default. It started working with 1.2 but I screwed up my boot drive little and now it doesn't work. It might be the monitor but it doesn't really matter because it's not 4k 60hx just 1080 60Hz. You can disable DP 1.2 in the on screen display so it doesn't matter. I am going to bed so ask me another question and I will answer it in the morning. Hope you find the right monitor.

I'm interested in the monitor too. The issue with HDMI/DP and the GPU detecting the monitor as an HDTV is nVidia only, right?

I beleive so. But it realy isn't an issue when you sort it out by changing the Display port from 1.2 to 1.1 I believe.
