~600$ upgrade

Fidycent
Go to solution Solved by Held657,

One and final question, if i take a 990X mobo, can i keep me same ol processor? Yes i know its a huge processor, but the budget is there.

AMD 970/990X/990FX are all AM3+ mainboards. AM3+ is backwards compatible to AM3. So yeah you could still use your current CPU with a 990X/FX mainboard. But you can also use a FX 8320/50 on your current mainboard (no overclocking though, for oc you need 990FX).

Budget & Location
The budget is around 600$ or so, now the toughest part, the location is Europe, Latvia to be specific, now that is the bottleneck i would call it, almost no websites ship here, ive noticed that Amazon finally started to do so, but again its limited to specific items.

Current setup:

CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor

CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 74.4 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: ASRock 970 Extreme3 ATX AM3+ Motherboard
Memory: Kingston HyperX Blu 8GB (4 x 2GB) DDR3-1866
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 600W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply
GPU: Radeon HD 7850 royalQueen CGAX-7852F 1024MB - GDDR5 - 256 BIT
Case: JCP KM6988 ATX
Monitor: PHILIPS 221EL2SB

Now for some commentary on the current setup, whenever i built this there pretty much was nothing that shipped to here without a huge shipping cost, the case is really random, my old one sort of fell apart so i had to go pick one up with the tiny budget i had.

Aim
This is why i did not put a specific title on the thread, im not sure what i want to do, i would love a second (better) monitor and a SSD, but thats it, i dont know what to really do with the money left. The new monitor i would like to be on level with the current one.

The SSD i looked at: Samsung Electronics 840 EVO-Series 250GB

So, help me on the rest.

P.S. Excuse me for being not so experienced in my description.

EDIT: This is not a complete upgrade, im simply lookin to get some new stuff for the cash ive got.

The SSD would make your OS and your main applications run way better than on a normal mechanical hard drive.

Is your monitor really that bad?

If it has problems, then get a new monitor instead. But, with 600$, I think that you can get that SSD and a monitor :D. How much does that SSD cost where you live?

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

It seems that ive worded it wrong, i looked in other Build plans etc, and it was top pick on amazon, thats why i chose it, on amazon its 130$.

So, yeah i was planning on getting both and some other items.

Well upgrading the GPU would only make sense with a CPU upgrade, which may need a new mainboard. The other way around is the same of course. CPU upgrade would be useless without a GPU upgrade. So with 600$ you could upgrade CPU and GPU, but then you won't get a SSD and new monitor. So my suggestion would be:

Get a SSD (the 840 Evo is awesome, go for it) and a new monitor. Save the rest of the money and wait until you saved a bit more again. Then go for a new CPU, GPU and maybe mainboard.

The only thing that would make sense to upgrade now would be the case I guess. For 600$ you get the 840 EVO, a good monitor and a good case.

Yeah.. I did look at a 8320 etc, but i figured the ssd would be a better choice, since you can also just upgrade the CPU, GPU etc 1 by 1 later. So, suggestions on the monitor and the case?

I dont, its simply that i order from amazon, because its like 13$ shipping or something, if i bought i all here, ofcoruse im gonna look at it, it would cost more. I put the budget in dollars so the community could understand easier.

Ah okay. So if I got this right you want a monitor that fits the size of your current one, which would mean 21.5" - 22". I would recommend an IPS panel since the image is just so much better. LG makes awesome IPS panels imo, so my recommendation would be a LG 22MP55HQ. As for the case: Well what are you searching? This goes from cube cases to big towers. Assuming you search a Midi Tower the NZXT H440 and the PHANTEKS Enthoo Pro / Luxe are awesome, because they hide away the PSU which makes everything super clean. But case is hard to say, the variety of cases is so big, and you can spend everything from 30 bucks up to a few hundred.

I am not sure if im allowed to post links to other foreign sites here, but if you go to the website(ill remove the link if needed, just say): www.dateks.lv/en you can see pretty much the best pc part store in the whole country, i looked at the prices and the difference i saw was pretty much only the amazon deals, so might asweell take something that isnt a month delivery time.

If anyone was so kind and chose the parts there that would be great, 600$ translates to about 450 euros, but i figured i wont be spending it all on these 3 products, so dont look for a 200 eur case if the other 2 components end off at 250 euros.

Thanks a bunch.

Ah I waited for that  :P . Makes things much more reasonable. I'll look through the site and will then let you know what I'd suggest.

So the site offers a good variety of products and the prices seem okay, only the case variety could be better. I did find some good ones though.

So I still recommend the 840 EVO SSD: http://www.dateks.lv/en/cenas/cietie-diski-ssd/82575_samsung_840_evo_250gb_sataiii_7mm

As for the monitor I picked two IPS panels I suggest: http://www.dateks.lv/en/cenas/lcd-monitori/90092_lg_electronics_22mp65hq_p_21_5_

                                                                                  http://www.dateks.lv/en/cenas/lcd-monitori/86889_asus_vs229hv_21_5_

Now to cases. The case is a very personal choice imo because it should be optically pleasing to the buyer, especially if you invest some more money. So all I can do is throw a list of good quality cases which I like at you:

http://www.dateks.lv/en/cenas/korpusi/83091_zalman_z9_u3

http://www.dateks.lv/en/cenas/korpusi/80520_zalman_z12_plus

http://www.dateks.lv/en/cenas/korpusi/89881_corsair_carbide_spec_01_red_led

http://www.dateks.lv/en/cenas/korpusi/90280_corsair_carbide_spec_02_red_led

http://www.dateks.lv/en/cenas/korpusi/90281_corsair_carbide_spec_03_red_led

http://www.dateks.lv/en/cenas/korpusi/74438_corsair_carbide_300r_black_windowed

The Spec cases are also available with white and orange LED fans I think. Personally I would choose the Corsair Carbide 300R by far. I think it looks awesome and the quality is really good. Also it's very roomy, but not too big. The problem with the Zalman cases is that the fans are crap imo.

Best would be you see through the case list at dateks.lv yourself and pick some you like. Then simply post the links here and I (and maybe some other guys) will tell if they are good quality etc.

As for the case, most of them have usb 3 infront, if you didnt notice or didnt check, my motherboard doesnt have any usb 3 support stuff. ( for the front panel ).

So uhh, whenever i were to upgrade the cpu to probably 8320 or 8350, which mobo would i go for?

So if you already buy a new mainboard you could either go for a H97/Z97 board + an i5 or you go with a 990X/990FX + FX 8320/8350. First of all it's important to know if you plan to do any overclocking (if yes slight or high oc?).

One and final question, if i take a 990X mobo, can i keep me same ol processor? Yes i know its a huge processor, but the budget is there.

Your old processor should be able to work with the 990X/990FX.  Double check that the motherboard you get supports the AM3 socket.

INTEL i7 4790K | GIGABYTE GA-Z97X GAMING 5 | A-DATA 16GB | PCS+ R9 290 | SAMSUNG 840 EVO | MOMENTUS XT BARRACUDA |  FRACTAL DESIGN R4
