Hey guys,

because i dont know where to put "homeserver", i am just putting it here, because it will mainly function as a data-grave.

What i am asking for is an example for what parts COULD be used in a custom build homeserver.

It doesnt need to be too fancy stuff inside, just the basics. I am thinking about 2-4 hard drives, with a total capacity of maybe 2 tb or something like that, depends on how much the rest will cost. Also, i'd like to run the hard drives in RAID mode. can you suggest any RAID controller? or is software controlled RAID enough?

If it's a data grave, can't you just delete the data? Or is this just consolidated storage?

data-grave is something i took from german, it describes a hard drive (array) which keep massive amounts of data that probably wont be deleted or effectively used.....for example large backups, or lots of photos, or videos...you know?

also, how much RAM does a server need?

For my data grave all send it all to /dev/null best data grave one can have, its cheap, quiet, great performance, infinite in size, can be HDD, SSD, RAM Disk and even SSHD hardware, and best of all its future proof!

I roll with sigs off so I have no idea what you're advertising.

This is NOT the signature you are looking for.
