Hi guys, long time watcher, new member. Not sure if this is the right area, so please move it if necessary.

Whilst at work (we refurbush/recycle PC's/Laptops etc) I came across what looks like an SSD, basically this:

1520_1.jpg

with an amazing capacity of 128MB. Yes I said MB :D

I can only assume its EOL or something because I can't really find out much about it. What I want to know is, should I throw it away, or can it be used for something? I'm assuming the former, since 128MB isn't really enough to do anything with these days.

Also, I have an Intel i7-870 CPU which apparently fits in an 1156 socket motherboard. For the life of me, however, I cannot find a motherboard. it's like 1156 doesn't exist, I can't find one anywhere. Again, I'm guessing EOL, but I'd still expect to find something.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

You can find 1156 mobo on ebay and 128 mb ssd is not enough, if you have a computer then use it for a secondary drive.

im no expert so dont take my word for it but i think those are were for caching in the beginning of ssds

"You know it'll clock down as soon as it hits 40°C, right?" - "Yeah ... but it doesnt hit 40°C ... ever  😄"

You could use it for paging files/caching, though you should be able to get an LGA 1156 mobo somewhere, probably not on an online retailer and even more-so with a local one but other places should be able to supply you with one.

Just quickly searched LGA 1156 and I instantly got heaps of results, anyways if you want look at these ones:

The last one is quite expensive and is a Maximus III Formula, though it has also been used, the other two are not as great but have been factory refurbished.

I have checked eBay for 1156 (and amazon, which gave me nothing) and it has 1156 motherboards, but they are all american, and the postage is redonculous (live in UK). I will have another look at some point. It's just curiosity really. My main system has an AMD cpu which im happy with, I'm just thinking of ideas for spare time projects and stuff.

Hmmm, well the 870 is still a decent CPU, even if it's 5 years old. I'm sure you should still be able to get an LAG 1156 board in the UK, well I'd think so with eBay and Amazon. I'm not quite sure what you'd be able to use them for so I can't really help you with ideas of how to sue them.
