HDD RAID Mode

Hey guys

I'm planning on building a costume PC i have a 500 GB HDD WD and i want to add a 180 GB thats from my old laptop to the build

I wanna have both those drives (500 & 180) as a single D Drive of (680) what should i Do i Have The C Drive as a M.2 80 GB SSD

It won't work that way. The maximum capacity you will achieve is 360 GB in RAID 0, because the smaller drive is the limiting factor in the RAID array. The rest of the 500 Gb will show up as another partition. Don't know how JBOD works, you can try that, but it won't give any performance or security advantages like RAID 0 and 1

In order to use your drives as one, you need to set a JBOD Span (not an usual RAID type). Have in mind that in case one of them fails, getting the information from the other drive would be difficult and you should have a backup.

If you provide me with some more info about your PC (Motherboard, BIOS, etc.), I can give you some guidance on how to set it up.

its still a work in progress Im planning on having

MSI Z97 gaming 7 MOBO

Intel Core i7-4790k CPU

8 GB RAM

EVGA GTX 660 GPU

EVGA SuperNova 850W PSU

Hey,

According to MSI's website, you have a MSI Click BIOS 4 (http://www.msi.com/product/mb/z97_GAMING_7.html#hero-specification) on that MOBO.Looking at its specs, I believe JBOD should work just fine. All it needs is the proper settings.
