Well.. I turned on my PC after a hard day of work and when I logged into my windows 8 user the screen kept stuttering and freezing, then after 10 seconds it came back and other 10 seconds later it froze again. It gave me an error saying Nvidia Kernel Mode driver stopped responding error or something similar.

Info:

CPU: Intel Core i3-2100

RAM: 8GB DDR3 1333Mhz

GPU: Gigabyte Windforce GTX 550 Ti

GPU drivers version: 340.52

Bear in mind that I didn't have such a problem before.

I tried the following:

  • Reinstalling my graphics drivers.
  • degrading graphics drivers.
  • installing latest drivers version.
  • formatting my pc.
  • degrading from windows 8.1 to windows 7

and the problem is still going.

You may want to see if you could get another card to make sure it is the card. You could bring your PC to a pc repair place or a place that would have a gpu that you could put in your system to make sure it is not a problem with your mother board. If you can still send the card back to get another one that would not be a bad idea.  B)

If you can, systematically exchange the components of the PC to see of replacing anything causes the problem to cease. Your i3 has integrated graphics I believe, so also check the BIOS to make sure those aren't enabled. If they aren't, try removing your graphics card and enabling them. if the stuttering stops then it is definitely something to do with your graphics card or your PCI express lane.
