My girlfriend has been wanting a budget build for a gaming rig for a LONG time now, and this has been my current build for it so far.

I just found this Newegg combo deal here:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboBundleDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.1324828

and as you can see, it has the same CPU, and a different model 7850.  The mobo looks acceptable for what she'll use it for, but the RAM is REALLY bugging me.  4GB at 1333 Mhz?  I'm afraid 4GB would be really noticeable compared to the 8GB most people throw in their gaming rigs, myself included.  It's pretty unlikely her rig will get upgraded once it's built, so I can't risk needing to buy more RAM later down the road if it turns out it's definitely not enough.

What do you think?  Is 4GB fine?

CPU: i7 6850K RAM: 64GB 3200Mhz Mobo: EVGA Micro2 PSU: EVGA P2 850W GPU: EVGA 1080 Ti FE

Storage: Samsung 850 Pro 256GBSandisk Ultra II 960GB

OS: Windows 10 | Display: LG 34UM94 & Asus PG279Q

I think it's plenty. But honestly, saying "I can't risk needing to buy more RAM later".... what's the risk? Another 4gb is only $35 (and ram prices are fairly high right now, it may well drop again).

I guess you're right.  It bugs me to think of using two different RAM modules, but in the back of my head I know it really doesn't matter.

What is your budget? under 600$?

As low as possible without being noticeably bad, but I guess you could say under $600.

I have 4gb of ram and i play bf2,CoD,Sleeping dogs etc.. and i have never ran into any problems. 4gb is well enough. the mhz does not make much difference. I would personally get the combo deal from newegg.

I would grab a 4300 with a msi 970a g46 board, 8gb kit of RAM (whatever you prefer) 500gb HDD, AMD 7700 or 7790 (very important you grab MSI or another brand that includes a molex to 6pin adapter), corsair cx430, NZXT source 210. Don't worry about aftermarket cpu cooler because that can always be an after though and a upgrade, the 970 board will overclock decently if you do decide to upgrade later to a better cpu cooler.

I wouldn't recommend having only 4GB. Even though it should be enough in theory, gotta say some games had big issues (crashes to desktop mostly) before I upgraded to 8GB (The Witcher 2 being the worst).

I would put a FX 6300 instead of an old phenom II, not much difference in price and its runs at 95w and not 125w like a lot of the other chips do.

and yes i would say get 8 gig of ram there is good deals everywhere,

don't cheap out on everything, its your girlfriend remember, she deserves good things, work extra hours and make sure you have something futureproof and powerful enough to run smooth.

an Evga 660 ti 2 gig with backplate is a nice looking and performing card.

also look into a small and neat cooler like the Zalman LQ 315, works well with a FX6300 :)

make sure everything is sata 3 interface.

hope that helps

got to love Asus components
