AMD 7990 HD frame drop

Go to solution Solved by itayzfira,

I went back to the 13.12.

the other drivers were too unstable

thank you all

hi all

I have tried different driver, from 13.12 up to the latest beta 14.7, the most stable is the 13.12.

always made a clean install after using the driver sweeper.

with the latest driver frames can drop down to 30 and highest around 70 with low graphics setup in game, small maps up to 24 players.

with the 13.12, also on low I get around the 80-90 fps while playing, but on the spawn menu it get up to 200 fps.

  thank you for helping

Remove your driver with DDU http://www.wagnardmobile.com/DDU/

Reinstall 14.4 driver.

Go into Battlefield 4 folder, find folder ..\_Installer\DirectX\redist\ and run DXSETUP.exe

run GPU-Z while playing BF4 and monitor your GPUs max temperature.

I did all the above.

then played...

i'm still watching but for now I can say the temp. are 86c  at the highest point on GPU 1 and lower on GPU 2.

I'll make some more observation and post them here.

is this normal for idle ?

I'm not really sure what dual gpu card like 7990 should get when idling. What browser u currently using? Those periodical spikes maybe caused by your browser.

Btw, you can open 2 GPU-Z window and set another one to monitor your 2nd GPU.

What is your gaming temperature? Also observe GPU load for both chips while gaming, i suggest you install MSI Afterburner and use it's On-Screen Display.

what does it mean?

can I change it ?

I haven't OC it

Your GPU load is pretty low.. can you disable 1 GPU in CCC and test it again?

Click on GPU Temperature drop down arrow and Show Highest Reading.

What FPS u getting with Mantle?

how do i disable 1 gpu in the ccc?

I looked at it couldn't find

There's no option to disable Crossfire in CCC? D:

Btw, can you turn on Mantle in BF4 graphic setting and play the game?

i couldn't find any option to turn 1 off. maybe there is one but I don't see it.

running with Mantle :

on low and mid settings I had drops all the way to 2 fps and it looked like freeze for 3 seconds, frame- 119 fps, next frame after 3 seconds of freeze is 2 fps and then jumps back to higher fps, then it would happened again after few seconds.

I'll make now test for reading fps range on mantle

this image can maybe show what happened on the freezes...

with mantle :

fps

low - 115 - 90, drops to 2 fps

mid - 110 - 80-, drops to 2 fps

high - 100 - 70, no freezes no drops to 2 fps

ultra - 120 - 55 (usually around 70-90 fps), no drops to 2 fps

I guess Mantle is not ready yet for your system.

What is your processor btw? Can you list your system spec here?

Your result is pretty weird thb, how can your card can get 150fps on Ultra with half GPU load i have no idea.

Btw, since your monitor refresh rate is 100, i suggest limit your BF4 max fps to 101 to reduce stuttering, heat and power consumption.

You can do that by opening console (press ~) and type gametime.maxvariablefps 101.

If you have MSI Afterburner installed, try turning off ULPS in MSI Afterburner Settings.

i can't see this option in afterburner (2.1.3)

my system is :

CPU - AMD FX-8350

MOBO - asus sabertooth 990fx r2.0

Memory - corsair vengeance 2x8 1600

GPU - radeon HD 7990

Case - Corsair 200r

  • storage - ssd samsung 120gb
  • PSU - corsair hx850
  • cooling - corsair h80i
  • monitor - asus vg248 144hz
the 150 fps on ultra was a peak, usually it's between 80-90

how can I get the fps and this limiter for fps permanent ?

That is super old, install the latest beta. http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/msi-afterburner-beta-download.html

80fps-90fps was about right with that kind of gpu load, seems like Crossfire scaling in BF4 is not that good.

ULPS disabled

Mantle enabled

settings on ultra with the limit 101 fps

seems stable mostly between 80-90 fps

about the GPU load... once the system starts to work the numbers shows 1500 MHz on the memory clock

and 1000 MHz on the core clock

but it still has those drops to 150 MHz on the memory clock and the core clock drops to 300 MHz and then up to 500 MHz and then up to 1000MHz.
