Gaming/work build

Borjita3
Hello guys,
Here I come from Spain at the other side of the pond with this build. Uses will move between CAD, fluid dynamics and gaming.
Budget is around the 1200-1300€ which is the build pictured below (With US prices comes at about 300€ less, therefore I don´t include prices here)

My main concerns are if the power supply will be enough, how good are the msi components and if the 130€ more of a 780 will be worth the money over the 770.

Build & peripherals:

Spoiler

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790k & Noctua NH-D15  | Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VII Hero | Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 | Storage: OCZ Vertex 460 240GB SSD | Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM HDD | Video Card: ASUS GeForce Strix GTX 1070 O8G Gaming | Case: Corsair Carbide Air 540 | Power Supply: Corsair CX600M V2 80+ Bronze | Keyboard: Logitech G710+ | Mouse: Logitech G600 | Monitors: ASUS VG 248QE & ASUS VS229HR | Headset: Hyper X Cloud II

750 Watts is plenty. You could go with an i5 4670k/4690k and put the money saved toward a 290x or 780(ti). Don't get a 770. You can get a 290 for the ~ same price. That motherboard is pretty overkill for the parts you are using too, but it isn't that expensive, so your call.

I should be studying.

The PSU is overkill, you only need 500-600W PSU for a single GPU system. So get any other PSU in that range from Corsair/CoolerMaster/Seasonic

MSI stuff is good. I like the Z97 G45 more than the Gaming 5 though :P but mainly because the look is different. As for the function the gaming 5 have 1 more new Sata port that havent been widely used yet, other wise they are very similar

Yes it worth the money to get 780 over 770, but if you are on tight budget how about R9 290? but careful if your program require the CUDA on the GTX or not. Dont get the 780Ti or 290x though, they are a waste of money as their improvement over their brother 780 and 290 is not enough to justified the additional price

Also if your use of CAD isnt that heavy, you may switch to an i5 4690k instead.

My rig: Intel Core i7 4790k | MSI Z97 PC Mate | GSKILL Ripjaws X 16GB 1866MHz | ADATA Premier SP550 480GB SSD | Seagate Barracuda 3TB | Seagate Barracuda 2TB  | MSI Gaming X GTX 1070 | Thermaltake Versa N21 | Corsair CX550M Semi Modular PSU | AOC G2460PF 144Hz | Logitech G502 | GSKILL Ripjaws KM780  | GAMDIAS HEPHAESTUS V2  PCPartPicker | Old Build Log | New Build Log

I would stick with the i7 as it will be better for CAD work.

As Lee says CAD work is heavy, but fluid dynamics is even worse.

There are a few CAD programs that can use the CUDA cores, not the particular one that I´m using right now but I´ll rather use the money for the productivity than the "fun part"

The psu may be a little bit overkill, but the 780 was around my mind when I thought about it.

Thank you.

So an i7 4790k and a GTX 780 is the right choice for you. And even with an 780 you still only need 500-600W PSU. 750+W PSU is for when you have 2 GPU running in SLI or Crossfire, so you dont need that for sure.

But if I were you I'd spend abit more money on the cooler, getting a H110 or X61 since the H100i is quite old already :P
