Hey guys,

so before anyone asks why, I'll explain the situation. I'm looking at moving back in with my parents soon, specifically I'll probably be living in a bungalow type environment. +1 for independence and all that. Now my parents do have Wi-Fi, but, again, bungalow, it's not in the main house. What it does have however is a telephone port in said bungalow.

So my question is this. Since I'll be living not in the main house, but I have a telephone line, can I hook up one of those ADSL splitters, my own modem, my own router, and run off the same internet that will be in the main house.

Unfortunately my parents live in the country so internet is hella expensive, I'd rather be able to actually use my computer in my room rather than setting it up in the main house if I have to pay that much for internet.

In theory it should work....however the simplier way to do with would be to run an ethernet cord or a high-powered repeater to bounce the single....but if you have to run the cord anyways I would just run the Ethernet and get an bridge.

If you've previously won the build off please pm me so we can get something worked out.

The problem with that, is, as I said, where I'll be staying isn't in the main house, where the main modem and router is.

So to run an ethernet cord to the main router, which is what I assume you're talking about, I'd need about 75-100 metres of ethernet cable, which would run from where I'll be set up, through a garage, outside when there are dogs running around, and then through most of the house, and then into the main router. And huge cables running through the house is a no-go anyway, I've tried it before and Dad drilled a hole in the wall since it was convenient

Then get this it doesn;t get interfered by weather and there is absolutely no wires so you just hook this up in the main house make your desktop wireless and bam there you go...anyways congrads on living on your own..

Run the cable under the house, dig up a small trench and run it under there. You should be running this inside some conduit though...
