Hello

I'll be doing a new build very soon which would mainly be used for 3D designing and rendering and moderate gaming. Now I'am a bit concious about the aesthetics of the build as I want an White/Black/Red theme. I'm looking for a motherboard which is good at gaming but can handle the pressure of long time rendering. I have a Thinkpad T420 which ran for almost 60 hours continuous to put out an image, so this will run for the same time or more. This build will be kept for about 5-6 years before a total upgrade so on the go expansion is also an important factor. I must be able to add tons of equipment on it in this time without having to worry about purchasing external components.

I had my eyes on an Asrock Z97 Fatal1ty Professional due to its price, specifications and aesthetics, but I can't find any reviews on it. So my second choice was the Asus Z97 Sabertooth Mark 1. But when i compare these two together the asrock just comes first in everything. Some say that wait for X99 to come out and go for that, some say go for the Asus Z97-WS or Maximus Hero or Formula.

I'm now messed up on which to choose so any help will be greatly appreciated.

pick whichever fit your budget and features you like

a good start is the MSI Z97 Gaming 5

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

I think the Z97-WS would be good for you.

Heck even by the sounds of it X79 might be good.

The Sabretooth and ASRock Z97 Professional are both top notch boards, and as you said the Pro does look much better.

Most boards on the higher end have capacitors rated at 10,000 operating hours @ ~100c

Well a lot of people are upset with ASUS gold boards and the huge splurge of red/black motherboard coming out :P

Colour won't effect the performance :)

Looking around the board good 12k caps have been used and there aren't any super obvious signs of cheapness.

I also thought about the Z97 Maximus Hero. Will it be able to handle 4 days of continous rendering at?

Not a big fan of the ROG boards myself, they seem overpriced and underfeatured.

but I wouldn't doubt the quality of the board, so most likely.

Generally Asus boards are really solid and the sabertooth series is made for harsh usage, alternatively you could venture towards an asus ws board taking into account the large usage time. Honestly though it all depends on your "budget".

So I spelt something wrong in my post... I don't care I don't read through what I write and I type very quickly.

Intel 3770k stock, MSI Z77A-GD65, MSI GTX 760, Corsair Vengence DDR3 1600Mhz 16Gb, Corsair RM 550W, Samsung 830 256Gb, some random hdds.

My budget is around the $250 mark so i can afford even the Z97-WS. But along with high quality components i also need many expansion possibilities

There is always issues with pricing differences hence why I am not linking them but, check out a few of these boards.

MSI Z97-G45

Asus sabertooth Z97

MSI Z87 M power max

Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD5H-BK
