Hello and Greetings from Canada,

So I was planning to get a personally built system and deciding on parts, all chosen except the graphics card and cooler; but that's in a different forum. Anyways I' am not oblivious when it comes to deciding on computer parts and I am very "educated" on what parts would best fit my system, however this particular case finds me asking for help. I need a "gaming" and all purpose graphics card that plays all AAA titles/ modern demanding games at a 720p resolution (1440x900-19"monitor) with reasonable FPS, preferably 60 FPS or higher. I don't play to upgrade my monitor in the near future  as I am a value gamer and under a tight budget. My thoughts of a potential rig are as followed:

OS: Windows 7 Home

CPU: i5 3570(k) (Might wait until Haswell)

RAM: 8GB Kingston HyperX Red 1600MHz

Case: Soruce 210 Elite

PSU: Corsair CX 500

HHD: Western Digitial Blue 500GB HHD (WD5000AAKX)

DVD Drive: Samsung Internal 24x

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H

TOTAL: ~$680

Budget is not really set in stone as it might fluxuate. Somewhere in the line of $600 min to $800 max.

GPU: ???

*SSD: ??? Intel 330 60GB worth the price? As a cache?...or for OS and important apps?

*optional

If you want to stick with your 19" you will be fine with a 7870/7850. The 3570k sticks out. I would go with a cheaper CPU and buy in exchange 8GB ram and a decent PSU.

for sure go for 8 gb and a better psu, I built a gaming rig for my wife and bought all my stuff on sale. If you're not in a rush wait for the deals, I pick up a corsair psu for 35 bucks, i'd have to sit down and calculate it but I think my wifes rig was cheaper than that and I have 8gb ram and a 1 tb caviar black. The bulk of your money is going to the cpu but for a budget build you dont need a 3570k.

CORSAIR C70 - MSI Z77A-GD65 - I5-3570K - GSKILLS TRIDENT X 8GB 2400 - CORSAIR H100I - SEASONIC X760 - GIGABYTE GTX670OC

A suggested budget would be helpful.

Ok m8 here is the deal if you are rushing right now i would suggest go for an AMD system

CPU :FX 8350 ( cheaper than the i5 and at stock it performs better, and you have to overclock the i5 to at least 4 ghz to match the stock 8350 )

MOBO: the best Asus, Gigabyte or MSI 990x mobo you can afford

PSU: get a 650 watt 80+ bronze ( corsair GS series, the 700 i highly recommend, it's a good budget friendly one )

RAM: 8 gigs of ram minimum, don't even joke with 4 GB today

HDD: get that 500 gb or even if you can find a 750 Gb model ( i own a 750 and it is great )

GPU: get a 7870, or if you can find a good 7950 on sale, or even a NV GTX 660ti ( only if a lot cheaper than a 7950, because you get a lot of free games with the 7900 series )

CASE: get a Coolermaster 690 II USB 3 version, they are cheap, but awesome.

with windows 8 this should be max 800$, and i would highly recommend it over the i5, buy an SSD only if you can afford , and do not get the 60 gb version, wait and buy a 120 GB on a sale after.

If you are willing to wait, wait for Steamroller, because your suggested build has only 3 good components: CPU, MOBO and the HDD, the rest is very bad, do not go Intel if you don't have cash to spend

System

CPU: i7 4770kMotherboard: Asus Maximus VI HeroRAM: HyperX KHX318C9SRK4/32 - 32GB DDR3-1866 CL9 / GPU: Gainward Geforce GTX 670 Phantom Case: Cooler Master HAF XBStorage: 1 TB WD BluePSU: Cooler Master V-650sDisplay(s): Dell U2312HM, LG194WT, LG E1941

Cooling: Noctua NH-D15Keyboard: Logitech G710+Mouse: Logitech G502 Proteus SpectrumSound: Focusrite 2i4 - USB DAC / OS: Windows 7 (still holding on XD)

When your saying a 8350 beats a i5 at stock is kind of general, It indeed would be most i5 but when your saying a i5 has to be clocked at "atleast 4Ghz" is not a good thing to be saying as it tends to lead to misunderstanding

i build you something, maybe you like it :D

It's a bit over the budget, but I definitely agree with this. Very balanced and will perform extremely well.

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790S 3.2/4.0 GHz  GPU: HIS AMD Radeon R9 285 2GB GDDR5  Motherboard: ASUS Pro Gamer H97  RAM: 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz

PSU: NZXT HALE82 700W  Cooler: ZALMAN CNPS5X Performa  Case: NZXT H230

Thanks for the input. But what should I choose for a graphics card. Keep in mind:

Doesn't an HD7870 seem a bit overkill?

What are your thoughts on a gtx 650 (ti)

or a HD 7850...?

if you are set on the parts that you have picked,  then a 7850, gtx 650ti or 660 will work just fine on the monitor that you have.

however if your looking for an all purpose pc like you said i would recomend the same as opsilon because the 8-core cpu does help alot with video editing. i have the 8320 and it works great.

he could throw the ssd out and he would be fine, or go on the GPU one smaller to a 7850. But buying a 8350 or 3570k is just a waste of money. And you can buy a ssd anytime

He had no buget when i built that :D

The 3570K seems overkill to me already. The build Andi listed will last you for a while. Here's my build that's on the cheap but still has good performance:

(All Newegg pricing)

CPU: AMD FX-4300 ($119.99)

GPU: ASUS GTX 650 Ti ($134.99)

Mainboard: ASROCK 970 Extreme3 ($87.99)

PSU: LEPA N Series 500W ($36.99)

RAM: Corsair XMS3 8GB ($57.99)

HDD: Western Digital Blue 750GB ($84.99)

Case: Cooler Master Elite 431 ($49.99)

OS: Windows 8 ($99.99)

CD-Drive: Any combo drive is fine, there's not too much difference (~$20)

Total:

~$692.92

Could save more with rebates, but didn't include those since they can expire/change.

CPU: Intel Core i7 4790S 3.2/4.0 GHz  GPU: HIS AMD Radeon R9 285 2GB GDDR5  Motherboard: ASUS Pro Gamer H97  RAM: 16 GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz

One vital piece of information I left out was that I might be doing some heavy video editing (maya, 3ds max); which would benefit a faster CPU. It also would made sense if I went with a quadro card such as the Quadro 600 but how could I chose between a gaming card and rendering card and do both at the same time?

on my gaming rig i currently have a intel 330 60gb SSD and it is very beinfical to the rig as the boot drive with the game im playing on it using a game moving program which ill find a link to soon.

as for the GPU id say that AMD is better for budget orrentated gaming so just get the best AMD card that fits your budget

MoBo: GA-z77x-ud3h CPU: 2500K @ 3.1 (miss my h80) Cooler: Stock GPU: EVGA 780 ACX RAM: 8gb G.skill SSDs: 2X Sammy 120EVOs HDDs: 2x Seagate Barracudas PSU: Corsair RM750 Case: Blue NZXT H440

On your resolution I would recommend grabbing a 1GB HD 7850 or a 1GB 650 Ti boost.
An FX 6300 will be plenty fast for games & does very well in productivity work loads, if you want more CPU performance consider grabbing an i5 3470 & overclock it , you can raise the base & turbo frequency by 400Mhz max.
