I just bought an Asus ROG Xonar Phoebus and have the optical out (TOS link) from the new card to my Earforce DSS. I can't get the DSS to work on the Dolby Digital setting though, it's stuck on ProLogic - consequently I don't have pseduo 5.1 in my headphones as I did with the X-Fi Fatality.

What am I doing wrong?

Trying to use pseudo 5.1. :P

Sorry, sorry, I'm not ACTUALLY trying to troll, I just can't stand those "effects". Is it something you really can't live without? I would suggest trying it for a while, you may find you like it.

I prefer headphones when gaming and I can't afford an expensive 5.1 headset. The DSS does a great job of 3D surround sound in 2 channel headphones.

I managed to sort it, I had to go into Control Panel--Sound--Playback--Digital Audio (S/PDIF) click properties--Advanced and change default format to Dolby Digital Live...if anyone's interested.
