Hi, a few weeks ago I made a post about my new/planned build. Today I finally went to the store so they could give me a budget.
However, when I got there the guy in the store started telling me that I couldn't game with the r9 280, that it sucked and that the only way that I was ever going to see 60fps @ 1080p was with minimum settings. He then proceded to tell me that the motherboard makes a huge difference and that if I choose to go with a WD Blue Caviar my pc would be super slow.
My pc knowledge isn't that great, but I suspect that most of those things are lies. Here is the build that he suggested:
HDD: WD Black 1TB
MoBo: ASUS Chipset 960 SKT AM3+ DDR3 ATX - M5A97 LE R2.0
CPU: AMD FX6300
RAM: Kingston 8GB DDR3 1600 -KVR16N11
PSU: Cooler Master 600W
GPU: Radeon R9 280
P.S.: I also think that a 600W PSU is a little overkill, is it?
You should walk into the store and tell them that because of the incompetency of the idiot working there, you decided to shop somewhere else.
Because yes, that's all a bunch of nonsense (mostly). At the very least, he should have explained it better and taken into consideration your budget rather than tell you your choice sucks even though you might not be able to afford more...
1. Get whatever GPU you can afford. Look up benchmarks of the games you want to play, and buy accordingly. Sure, you're not gonna be running BF4 on Ultra at 90FPS with that card - there's a reason there are much more expensive cards.
2. Motherboard does not make a "Huge" difference. Sure, if you get the cheapest no-name Mobo, you're probably gonna have a bad time. But I see in your old thread, that you chose an Asus, which is a reputable brand.
3. Yes, a Cav Blue is slower than a black. It's cheaper too, though. I would recommend getting a blue, and saving up for a 128/256GB SSD. blue to black, its not really noticeably faster. Blue or black to SSD, you will notice instantly.
4. Yeah, you could go with a good 500W.
Other than the WD Black and Single stick of DDR3 (I would recommend dual channel if you have 4 slots on your motherboard), His build is fine, and will perform better and have more upgrade-ability than the build you had in mind, but it's also probably more expensive too...
