pc was making a lot of noise and decided to figure out what it was

after a while i figured out  my WD 1tb blue was making all the noise and and shaking the case like crazy (h440 case)

But like jeez none of my buddies have a loud hard drive, like i put my hand on the top of my case and its vibrating

am i doing something wrong or something?

what can i do

thanks

EDIT: I think the hdd is at 100% all the time

It's either not mounted properly or dieing

this build is pretty new and im pretty sure its mounted properly, I took it out of the case and everything is quite and not shaking. I think its because the hd is at 100% all the time which it feels like it is

HDD's only work at 100%, as it uses it's mechanical arm to seek for information. My other conclusion is that you need rubber isolation from the case metal as was mentioned above.

HDD vibrations can cause noise in contact (Case) with other metals, it can be solved with rubber joints

mine did too, I did this ghetto job (it's a WB CB aswell)

P280514_1512_zps55da229c.jpg

that blue things are rubber joints, which absorb vibrations

The hard drive mounts have rubber things on them..,

are they soft or hard? also how strong is the mount? (if you can move the HDD then that's not OK)

They are pretty soft but now that i look at it the sides of the hd are touching the slide that the hd goes in imma try mounting it another way, will report back sir. over

I moved my HDD to the bottom of the case its one of the extra spots beside the PSU and there is no rubber dampeners there but my case is shaking MUCH less so ill probs do some ghetto rubber mounting there

but there is one more thing  and just the sound the HDD sounds is quite noticible from what i hear most people say they cant hear it at all past 6 inches

Hi lastshot, sorry to hear that you're facing some problem with your PC. Just want to ask, have you tried to remove the casing and check whether the sound still persist? However, here some steps for you to check out whether the problem is in your drives or casing:

1) Remove your casing and turn on the system. If the noise is still continuing, the problem is at your drives. Then continue with step 2. If there is no noise, then you have to fix your casing.
2) Try to replace another drive to double confirm it is your drives issue. If there is no noise, then high possibility the fault is at your casing. If that case, then you can refer to this link on how to replace a product under warranty.

Hope this helps to solve your issue.
