Hi bros,I recently got a lenovo y50 laptop with a gtx 860m,I have overclocked a gpu before (gtx 780) and i decided to try it on my lappy, However when i oc it i can only add 135mhz on the core clock. Iam pretty sure i can push the gpu even further as my temps stay around the 50c. Is there anything i can do to add more mhz on the core.

Help will be appreciated

Current 860m setting 1155mhz core (1020+135)

Memory is +700mhz

even with OC

the GPU is still slower than a Desktop GPU

and they burn up faster

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

@Kenna: Please don't listen to the 'knowledgeable' naysayers who don't have a clue.

My w230ss is using a 860m overvolted to 1.20v, running @ 1340 MHz with 5700MHz on memory, temps stay under 80C under heavy furmark load or gaming. I have the top 3dmark firestrike extreme score for this system configuration, although many members on NBR with similar laptops managed to push their machines even farther, at lower temperatures.

Considering that the 860m is LITERALLY the exact chip at the same specs used by the GTX-750Ti, yet I'm pushing it higher than many desktop users get their cards to run, the "desktop GPU's are faster" argument is moot (also check the link for the 7970m crossfire mod in the R2 - 7970m being a slightly cut down version of the 7870 desktop card - the crossfire brings performance at the level of a GTX-titan GPU, inside a laptop).

I also have the 4700mq CPU overclocked to 3.6GHz, undervolted by 75mV, staying under 85C.

Absolutely stable.

In order to manage temperatures better, my bios is unlocked to allow for maximum fan speed on demand, and I am using a cooling pad under the laptop at home for when I run in this high-performance mode.

i am using a modified system bios made by Prema (you'll get to find out who he is and what he does if you get into this stuff - http://premamod.com/)

Afaik, prema is also working on an unlocked system bios for the y50, but you'd have to ask him about that.

This is within a machine with a single cooling fan and only two heatpipes overall, 13" form-factor, under 2kg.

For enthusiast questions relating to laptops, i recommend visiting notebookreview.com and/or techinferno.net. As you can see, with the right choice of machine and tuning, you can have laptops running similar performance as desktop machines or beating them, even several generations behind. (check out the mod we've done on the old m17x R2 machine if you're interested - http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-17-m17x/720908-m17x-r2-7970m-crossfirex-ultimate-installation-tweaking-guide.html)
