Apps not in Taskbar

Hey,

 

I've searched for an answer to this but am struggling. I want to have my apps display on my taskbar, the ones that are open and the ones I choose to pin. However, I can't see to be able to do either of these things. After some searching almost every website was saying I should check the "Show Windows Store apps on taskbar" box, as in image 1, however I don't have this option for whatever reason, as shown in image 2.

Does anyone know of a fix for this? As it stands not even the Windows Apps that are running are shown in my taskbar, only desktop applications.

 

Update: Windows 8.1, Brand new PC with 4790k.
