Hey Guys,

I am looking for a computer right now that I would like to build that will do couple of things. First, I am not a gamer so that isn't a problem for me so I wanted a pretty good (under $1500) desktop that will make HD video editing faster and more usable for me. I want computer that will last me for a long time because I don't want to buy these parts again and build it every year, no that is just a waste of time and money. So I wanted to get a recommendation from you guys on what CPU, GPU, and other stuff to consider when building this. I also don't want it to be very very expensive (as I said under $1500 or even less) because I want to get the most bang for my bucks. This is coming from a guy who has never had a desktop, I have always had a laptop and mine works fine right now and I love it but I need a desktop for my other needs. If you guys are wondering what editing program I use, I want to be able to run Sony Vegas Pro 12 very nicely and have it render it a pretty small amount of time as right now I am very much struggling with it. Thanks guys!

P.S.

I don't have very much knowledge about all of this so I am trying to gain more about building computers day by day and I hope you guys can help, thanks again!

Well I already have a montior, a mouse and a keyboard so that isn't problem. I do want either a windows 7 or windows 8, doesn't matter to me but what I need recommendations on is the GPU, what CPU I should get and such and such.

It is always easier to recommend a total system as that insures a balanced build.

Some notes on the parts:

An i7-4790K as 8 threads makes a difference in editing. An unlocked cpu because it currently has the highest base clock in the Haswell family. Plus it can be overclocked if you wish to do so.

A Noctua cooler for its quiet operation and excellent cooling. If you decide to oc the NH-U12S will give you a decent amount of headroom.

An mITX Z97 motherboard because it makes for a compact build and the motherboard includes WiFi.

2x8GB of memory are a good match for an i7 and will certainly improve editing and rendering speeds.

A 240GB ssd for faster general operation. It should be large enough to host a large project or two, further speeding up editing.

An R9 290 gpu as Vegas Pro 12 appears to have better gpu acceleration times with AMD gpu.

Hey, thanks soooooooooo much for this. I mean it has helped a lot. Just couple more questions. What do you think of a Geforce 770 GPU or a RRadeon R9290x GPU? Do I need that or will this work just fine? And also I was thinking of getting a Cooler Master Glacer 240L 86.2 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler and adding Noucta fans onto it because maybe liquid cooling will be quieter or will the Noucta fans be quiet. I really want a quiet PC because that is a hug thing for me. Still, thanks a lot it helped so much.

The R9 290X and R9 290 will have better performance than the GTX 770. From the few benchmarks I've seen AMD R9 gpu seem to perform better with gpu renders in Vegas Pro 12.

A cooler like the Noctua NH-U12S is reasonably inexpensive and will run very quietly at load on stock speeds. There are a number of AIO coolers that have quiet modes which will as or nearly as quietly as something like the NH-U12S. They are more expensive. Unless one is seeking high overclocks an air tower seems to be the better choice in this build.

While I mentioned the NH-U12S several times, it is not my intention to suggest that it is the only choice. There are other tower coolers that do a good job and are as quiet or even quieter. be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3, Noctua NH-D15, Noctua NH-D15, and Noctua NH-U14S to list a few.
