So I have tried 3 games now, Modded Skyrim, Farcry 3 and Crysis. They all spontaniously crashed 30 seconds - 2 minutes into gameplay. The tempurters were all sub 70 and I disabled the OC and it still happens. I have reinstalled the drivers once and I have not overvolted the card. I had artifacting when I tried to overclock past 1200, but I decided to just disable the OC all together. Now I am worried since I am having problems even without an OC. ANy ideas? I have an EVGA ACX SC 780 ti with the 337.88 nvidia driver.

Edit: There is no error, it just kind of goes to the desktop. Doesn't say "Skyrim.exe has stopped working" or "FarCry3.exe has stopped working" they just kind of, crash and it was like the game was never running.

Have you tried launching them with your CPU at stock as well? It's always best to eliminate any variable in cases such as this.

CPU: 5930K @ 4.5GHz | GPU: Zotac GTX 980Ti AMP! Extreme edition @ 1503MHz/7400MHz | RAM: 16GB Corsair Dom Plat @ 2667MHz CAS 13 | Motherboard: Asus X99 Sabertooth | Boot Drive: 400GB Intel 750 Series NVMe SSD | PSU: Corsair HX1000i | Monitor: Dell U2713HM 1440p monitor

Wait I'm confused, did you edit you post and then post another comment???

Anyways, sorry about the small derail but I have no idea what the problem would be. How about you reseat the RAM modules and maybe do the same for the GPU too.

Thanks, didn't even think of that. Seems to be okay at least in Far Cry 3. Scum bag CPU was like "I been working fine for a year and a half. I heard you installed a new GPU you are paranoid about, would be a shame if I say.... became unstable."

Sounds like your psu might not be up to the task of running that system.  A reference 780ti requires a 600w psu according to the Nvidia site, and you have a factory overclocked card that you have overclocked even further. Your profile says you have a 750w psu, which should be enough, but it is a budget 750w unit, so it may be struggling a bit when you load it up.  Who knows, it might be on its way to failure too.  Just a guess though, you haven't really given a lot of info to go on.

Do you have another PSU you can test it on?

Are they pirated games?

Nope they are all legit copies from Steam, Origin and Uplay (Bloody company exclusive DRM -_-) and no I do not. The issue SEEMS to have resolved itself when I set my CPU to stock so yeah. I didn't increase the voltage on any of my components.

It's probably your PSU. See you have a builder series (CX Series). They are developed by a low end OEM (Channel Well Technology). The components inside the 750W CX series aren't that bad, but not great.

Try another PSU and see if the problem persists (you should be able to overclock both your CPU and GPU on a quality 750W PSU, which the CX 750 isn't really a quality one)

I would love to try it on another PSU, except I don't have any other power supplies, and if I did have a better one why would I be using this one?

You'd be surprised what is better than a CX Series, which is why I asked if you had another (even a quality 550W). If you want to overclock your CPU and GPU replace it with a better unit. There's many that aren't expensive:

XFX Core Edition PRO650W

Rosewill CAPSTONE-650

Cooler Master V650

Or anything from this list in your budget range:

Dude your Power Supply is holding your system back. Get another job to earn extra money. All the recommended Power Supplies I posted are under $100.

I don't have any way to know that, I may spend $100, go through the pain that is re-routing cables to find out my PSU was fine...

The signs point to it. Not being able to overclock the GPU or CPU without crashes or issues generally mean not enough power. The kicker is you turned off all your overclocks and now it's working fine. Sure there's no way to be sure, but that's the most probable based on the information you have given.

Yeah about that, ran Prime 95 for less than 20 seconds, looked at the temps and HOLY BALLS 100 DEGREES SHUT THAT **** OFF RIGHT THE **** NOW!!! Gonna re-apply thermal paste now, scary to know it has been running like that for 2 days O_o

Could be a thermal issue then. Make sure you apply less than a pea sized amount in the center, then use the pressure from your cooler to spread it evenly.

Well no kidding xD it was a thermal issue for sure. I re-applied the thermal paste and while running small FFT on prime 95 I am at 70 on the hottest core.
