Okay so I am moving houses and have to purchase a new router. I was planning on buying the Linksys WRT1900AC. I had some questions, can I hook up broad band internet to this and have wifi throughout the house? Also it has sata 3 and usb ports. Would it be faster for me to use an usb to ethernet for the connection to my desktop?

the usb ports are for drives/other peripherals.

Buying routers is for sissies.

 

If you don't do that, the WRT1900AC is one of the best OTS solutions and you can even install OpenWrt and hopefully LibreWRT eventually.

Dude Im sorry i have no clue what OTS solutions OpenWrt or LibreWRT is.. and I wanted a router cause my mom and sister live there to and they both use wifi.

just get a linksys dual band wireless modem router. 

then hook up a wireless USB adaptor to your PC , case closed.

Don't be sorry, be curious.

 

OTS means off the shelf. I thought you were a serious enthusiast. The WRT1900AC is a great consumer-grade solution. Buy it if you want to, but I figured that since this is an enthusiast forum, you were looking for a hardcore, power user solution.

The house I live in now I use wifi for my desktop and I cannot stand it the speeds are horrible even on 5g. I just need a router that can handle large file transfers and gaming. Also no one ever said the fastest way to connect my desktop and the router.. and i am not doing wireless. My computer has a good many Usb 3.0 ports open and 1 ethernet.

In that case, just get a router. The WRT1900AC is a router and access point. You don't even really need to buy a router, you can make one out of any computer.
