My PC is connected directly to the modem. I booted it up today it says it's connected to the modem but when I try to use anything that requires internet (steam, chrome, etc). It says you are not connected to the internet. I unplugged the Ethernet cables. Still didn't work. So I have this USB wireless adapter so I tried that but the same thing happens. it says it's connected to my network but nothing that requires internet works. I know my modem is working because my iPad and phone are connected and they work fine.

My PC specs are

Processor: AMD fx 6300

Graphics: AMD redeon 7770

Motherboard: gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P

Hard drive: 1tb western digital

Operating system: windows 7

Would have to agree with Matthew go to gigabytes website and download+install the latest internet drivers for your motherboard or use the disk included.

Edit: You can download them from another computer and move the files via a usb if you don't know how :)

It's connected through Ethernet

It could be a bad port are you getting any lights on the connector to the router (if there are any) and look at the back of you machine because if there aren't any lights because if there aren't then you may have a problem...

There is lights they look the same as they always do. When I hooked up the USB wireless adapter it says single strength excellent and single speed 50.4 Mbps. Every thing looks normal. But when you try to do anything that requires a internet connection it says that I'm not connected to the internet.

The newest drivers are installed still didn't work. But I opened up my task manager and tried to do some windows updates and it worked. I was watching the task manager and the thing ware it says how much of the network you are using it went up when it was doing the updates. So it's weird how everything else that requires internet doesn't work Because I'm getting a connection. Any suggestions to fix this

have you actually tried power cycling the modem?

ive had issues where my computer (even when directly plugged in) is the only one that cant connect to the internet. power cycling, ipconfig /release /renew, reboot..

just do normal connectivity troubleshooting, new drivers couldnt hurt, but i dont think they'll help either, especially if its worked fine before

I think I know what's wrong now I had AVG 2014 installed and a week later the problem suddenly occurred. At the time I didn't know it was the cause. On my old laptop I decided to install it because it was the only computer in my house that worked a day later the same problem occurred then I immediately uninstalled it and looked it up and it was a known issue. I've tried almost every thing. Iv read that it installs some wireless driver but I can't find it any ware to delete it. Can some one please help me with how to fix it without having to wipe my system.

1) Considering you're still getting problems, try the AVG removal tool (http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities) to hopefully eliminate any form of installation on the computer. See if that does anything.

2) Try the network diagnostics built into windows if you haven't already.

3) Control Panel --> Network & Internet --> Network & Sharing Center. You should see something on the left that says "manage network connections." Right click on your wireless and perhaps you will see an AVG network filter checked, uncheck that.

Let me know how these go.
