Hey guys, I'm building my first gaming computer and the guys I ask to help at electronics stores all say different things. Here are the specs so far:

Planning to get-

780 ti GPU or Titan

16 GB RAM

1 TB Hard drive

Solid state (still debating which)
700w Power supply

Windows 8 operating system

24" 1080p 144hz monitor (single for now)

Razr mouse & keyboard

So far I have the MSI Z97-G55 SLI mobo and i-5 processor

I am still unsure on what type of cooling system and case to get

My budget is $1500, however I am getting an amazing deal on the graphics card, free monitor, and free keyboard and mouse. I will be playing most Steam games, FPS type games and a few like Skyrim. I want a high end gaming computer that won't need an upgrade for a few more years. I am content with the i-5 processor, but not 100% on the mobo, since I really don't know much about them (I can return the motherboard). Also, I was told to go lower for the power supply but researched that the ideal power supply for a powerful gaming computer is 700-750w.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Looks good! Unless you have specific questions on parts, I'd say you're good to go!

16gigs of ram is overkill for a gaming specific rig.  Go with quality 1600ghz 9 latency RAM and it will do well.  If you really feel you need 16 gigs, that's fine, but make sure it's good quality 9 latency ram 1600 or higher.

Get a quality PSU.  You shouldn't need 750w for a single 780TI or titan.  But headroom isn't a bad thing.  The key to PSU's is quality, choose a tier 1 or 2 PSU.  You can find the tier list with a google search.

The rest of it looks good.  If you have the budget and case space, I would go with an AIO water cooling solution.  Something like the H110 or H100i from corsair.  Something with a dual 120 or dual 140mm radiator.  Otherwise look to Noctua for high end air coolers.

Thanks guys! I guess I should've posted some questions haha
so what solid state would you recommend?

should I keep the motherboard?

I was originally told to get a 2 TB hard drive but thought it might be more than I needed, should I go for 1 or 2 TB?

And PSU and cooling you'd recommend?

Thanks again!

SSD - Samsung EVO if on a budget 840 pro for more theoretical speed, 850 Pro if you want the newest and hottest on the market(if you can wait for the release).  Intel 730 series is pretty good too...personally, I don't look past Samsung for SSD.

Motherboard should be fine.  I don't personally like MSI, but they're good from what I hear.

Get twice as much HDD space as you're currently using unless you can't afford it.

PSU, go with either Seasonic, XFX, or Corsair non-CX lines.  Preferably Gold or Silver.  Cooling Corsair AIO(there are other quality AIO solutions too just research them) or Noctua air cooler.

Another big thing is brands. Most of the items I know what size and kind I want, although there are so many from different companies and I don't know too much about them. Is there a difference?

Yes.

This will be a lot easier if you go to pcpartpicker.com and setup a list.  Post the list here and we can make specific recommendations.  A specific budget would be good too.

I have the items I want, but I can't do pcpartpicker.com because I dont have many specifics. Not sure on the brand. Budget - $1500

I don't understand why you can't do a partpicker....

I also don't know which i5 processor you have...but here's my suggestion...price is over $1500 but since you have the board and CPU already, I wasn't sure if that was included in the price or not.
