Alright, so this idea grew from my need for a more “compact” solution for performance gaming. The original idea was to have a high-end computer in a small form factor tucked away out of sight and out of the way. This began back when I lived in a small apartment and had a full tower sitting under a small table, getting in the way no matter where I put it. For a while in considered a mini ITX case like a prodigy. While definitely smaller and less impractical, it still left me with a tower that I needed to put somewhere. Another idea was a low profile desktop case which I could position next to my monitor or behind it, but these solutions leave little room for high-end hardware. Another solution I briefly considered was a desk where you can build the components into the desk surface, but those look horrible to sit comfortably at with the case in between your arms and legs. Nowadays I live in a bigger house with my SO, so the need for this solution has kind of disappeared (in fact I recently bought a Fractal Arc Xl which is not a compact case by anyone’s standard), but the idea for this concept stayed in my head. I would like to share with you what I came up with: my version of a computer desk. It may not be practical for everyone nor usable in every situation, but this is what would’ve suited my needs perfectly J

The desk is 110cm (about 43”) wide and 60cm (about 24”) deep. It has a set of 2 drawers on each side. The top one is relatively short (more on that in a moment) and the bottom one reaches nearly the entire depth of the desk. At 20cm wide at the front (would probably only be about 16cm of usable width inside) it wouldn’t exactly work for storing paperwork or anything larger than a big stapler, but will be sufficient to lose your old hard drives, keep a few pens, screwdrivers, laptop charger, etcetera. The monitor shown in the picture has the approximate dimensions of the 34” LG 34UM65 (21:9 ratio) monitor and that’s just because why not :P

On to the good stuff: the custom case that’s part of the desk. The case itself sits behind a 30cm (about 12”) work surface and is 9cm (about 3.5”) tall and 30cm (12”) deep. The layout inside isn’t based on any particular setup, but rather shows some of the possibilities.

It has room for 2x 240 radiators, which take in air from the top of the case and exhaust it below the case behind the short drawers I mentioned earlier. This way all hot air is exhausted at the back away from you. This hot air is then allowed to then rise through a gap that exists between the back panel of the desk and the wall. The PSU is also positioned in such a way that it draws in air from the leg area and exhausts it at the back. The case should be able to hold most ATX boards, ATX PSU, etc, but the graphics card (or cards if you get creative) will require a riser to be useable due to the limited height.

So how do you guys like my concept? FYI I’m not planning on building this anytime soon (waaay to many other household projects going to even consider it).

Cheerz :3

You're right that is a very nice build :) Impressive work

But for me it still has the one problem that you're basically hugging a case between your arms and legs and that idea never appealed to me.

Yeah I see your point. I read what I said and realized it could be taken as me thinking I thought that implementation was better than your concept, that isn't the case. Just thought you would be interested.
