Hey guys, so my sister has a Toshiba satellite laptop that is a few years old and is almost inoperable due to the "Slow as snails" HDD. So i am planning to get her an SSD for under $200 and install it for her. But this got me wondering a few things...(1) Will it be difficult to replace the HDD in her laptop? I have worked on desktops and built my own but i have never "Operated" on a laptop before. and (2)What problems might i run into installing the SSD. and (3) Is there an easy way to transfer the windows 7 from the HDD to the SSD? Thanks guys i could really use your help.

(1) no not really

(2)be sure to buy a 7mm (thick) SSD to be sure that it will fit in the lappy. This issue may or may not pertain your her lappy.

(3)some SSDs ship with migration software. Acronis True Image would be an example of software that can clone the OS of the HDD to the SSD.

No. Just a screwdriver and some of the screw holes might be under rubber feet/stickers so be careful. If your laptop has a smaller panel to open that is usually where the HDD and RAM are since they let you change those parts out. The older ones usually need the whole back opened though. Just use your judgement and sliding some kind of card to pop the edges off usually work pretty well. Make sure it's not a card you want though because it can get pretty banged up.

Laptops are a bitch to work with. You might not even be able to replace it yourself.

You could transfer it to the ssd, but I wouldn't do it. Just save all the important data and do a complete re-install.

New laptops are, but since OP's one is older, it should be easy because Toshiba laptops of those days there was a cover with 2 screws to replace it.
