I currently use a hyper 212 evo and I spotted the shadow rock slim on sale for half price and I was wondering if it's worth it to buy it. I should also mention that I'm building a secondary system so I want to know if it's equal to or better than the hyper 212 evo. Also I'm running a 4670k @ stock (I plan to OC later)

CPU: Intel I5-4670K@ 4 Ghz, Mobo: Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H, GPU: Gigabyte GTX 780, PSU: EVGA 850W Gold, Case: Corsair Spec-01, HDD's: 120GB boot,1TB games,2TB storage, Optical Drive: Generic DVD (Writer?)(occasionally), Misc: Avermedia Live gamer HD, random wireless card my father had(Occasionally)

The Hyper 212 coolers are crap, and the Shadow Rock Slim is one of the better ones. The only real difference between the Shadow Rock Slim and a full Dark Rock from Be Quiet! is the density of the heatsink's fins. They perform closely to eachother in the majority of situations for any processor below 220-240W TDP when overclocked. That's pretty much everything except 8-core FX.

It really depends. The difference between the CM and SRS is marginally, probably not worth full price definitely but at half you really just have to decide if the small gain is worth it. You can overclock with the CM Hyper 212 EVO too, by the way. :)

Excuse me? I thought they were really good...hmm.

I beg differ as I'm using one to cool my FX 8350 OC-ed to 4.5GHz

They are really good, for the price. You can easily find coolers that will out-perform it, but they often cost far more.

As for the OP, see if you can find any benchmarks with both of them in it. If the Shadow Rock Slim performs better and you need the extra cooling, then it is probably worth it.

Well, of course, for a higher budget you could have a whole bunch of better options...but the improvement from a CM Hyper 212 EVO and a Shadow Rock Slim isn't all that much of an improvement. Except maybe that (supposedly) it is a whole lot quieter.

Oh I never said you were wrong in any way, I'm even using the Hyper 212 myself and I most likely wouldn't swap it out in this situation. :)
