Hey guys,

I have 2 subnets (yep, I'll get onto that later), anyway, I'd like to access devices across the two.

This is my current network setup:

Now, obviously, I don't have more than 255 devices and don't need the extra IP address of a separate subnet.

So, I'm thinking either DHCP relay or subnet masks? (so that DHCP on both routers will only pool its addresses from 192.x.x.x, even though I use static for all my devices, its mainly for when people come over, cba setting it up for new devices)

I did 2, 1 term, courses at uni on "Networks & OS's" and "Network Security" in CompSci, but that was a few years ago now and can't really remember how-to-network and my notes don't make much sense, need to get back in NetKit again and muck around! lol. Thus why I'm asking for help here! :)

So you want two separate networks, but want your PC to be able to talk to the iFile server, and router2 to be able to get internet from router1?

Also, is it LAN1/WAN1 and LAN2/WAN2, or is it as you described?

Have a routing problem.

Router 1 does not know the network belonging to Router 2. Therefore Router 1 traffic destined for network 10.0.0.0/16, exits trought the internet connection and (obviously) does not reach the destination network.

Router 1 does not support static routing, therefore (and in my humble opinion) you have 2 options:

1 - Change the mode of the Router 2 to "bridge mode". This will give you all the devices on the same network.

2 - Use port forwarding on Router 2. Thus the devices access the file server through the IP of Router 2.

Best luck

No, sorry, I realise now the wording makes it sound like that in the beginning...

I think it's easier not to do that as I really don't need it, just, if you will, setup the second router to be a slave of the first.

Thanks, I'll give it a go/have a look later on. :)

Guys, guys. Massive derp on my part.

Guess how I got it to do what I wanted?

Moved the Ethernet cable on the WNR1000v3, 2cm to the left from WAN to LAN and turned it into a WAP. It all makes sense now, just didn't twig at the time.

Oh dear. Haha!
