So I've recently come over to the PC genre about 3 months ago and I've found that the mouse and keyboard is VERY different compared to a Xbox controller. So I was wondering if anyone has any tips or if anyone will be awesome enough to help teach me to get better at FPS games? Preferably on CS:GO and BFBC2?

Accept the fact that you're going to be horrible for a while and just keep playing. The skills will come in time. Once you learn the sensitivity of your mouse and your keyboard it'll become second nature. It's like going from one console controller to another, you just need the readjustment period. I moved to PC gaming about a year and a half ago and I still suck at shooters, but I mostly play games like Morrowind anyways hahaha :P

MY tip play minecraft untill you fell that you can handle the superior controls of keyboard and mouse.

Minecraft is fps-to some degree as controls go

Its cheap, and you wont get beaten to the ground by gamers who know what they're doing :D

This is helped my cousin switch to master race of gaming ;)

^This. When I started playing console games, I had a really hard time playing with the analog sticks and triggers and bumpers and whatnot, but I kept playing for a while, and then I got fairly good.

It did take a few months though. Remember, practice makes perfect. Enjoy the superiority of the keyboard and mouse.

As for cs go its a pile of crap for aiming. I dunno what they did but its one fps that i cant aim in. BFBC2 takes about 2 months to get good at. After you get to lv16 and get magnum ammo then the game gets a lot easier then before

When I first started properly gaming on pc I used a mouse where I could adjust the sensitivity (still do, rat 5) found it helps a lot being able to increase or decrease the sensitivity on the fly while playing games.

You can plug your Xbox controller to the PC. That might make everything easier, if you are used to it that is. As for tips all I can say is "practice makes perfect".

To get better in fps games there's a few steps you need to do.

You need to build up muscle memory.

Start by turning off any and all mouse acceleration

Turn the DPI/CPI on your mouse to the highest setting. Then using the OS software turn it down to controllable levels. (when you drop your dpi/cpi on your mouse, you are essentially not using it to it's full capacity by telling it to ignore a % of movements)

Find a game you want to set up as your BASE game, you will use this game to find what feels right for you and then calibrate it to your other games. play with the ingame sensitivity to find a setting that just feels good, allows you to accurately move, turn and point at various objects on screen.

Once you have found your settings, grab a ruler or some other way to measure. Now stand in a 90 degree corner looking directly down one of the walls. Measure how far your mouse has to move to look from one wall to the other. Do that a few times to get an accurate measurement.

Now in any other fps games you play do the same wall test, but change the game settings to match your measurements as close as possible.

When all your games require the same amount of mouse movement to do the same actions you will build up muscle memory for how far to twitch your hand to turn completely around.

If you don't do this, each game will be different and switching between them will come with their own learning curve.

Overall it takes time and practice.

Hope that at least helps you get pointed in the right direction to becoming more skilled on PC FPS games.

You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

IMO, your mouse sensitivity depends largely but not entirely on your mouse pad, if you have a huge mouse pad I'd recommend playing on an overall lower sensitivity,

I see some great tips in this thread already, if you want my opinion on mouse DPI, I'd say don't turn it all the way up, relax it a bit and set it to what you're most comfortable with. e.g if you have a 5000 DPI mouse, don't use it at that max DPI setting, tone it down a bit use it at 2500DPI or lower, as far as i know, all mice with high DPI settings have the option to change it to a lower setting.

About the keyboard part, don't go all crazy and rebind everything, slow down a bit (except if you're a lefty, if you are then go ahead and please ignore this).

Most FPS games generally use the same controls, WASD for movement R to reload C or L.Ctrl to crouch etc.

What you may have noticed about my suggestion, is i emphasis something a lot, that is take it slow, you shouldn't (IMO) use the highest possible sensitivity or mimic some pro's settings, just relax and take it slow. as you gain skill and experience, you'll figure out what's best for you.

here are some YouTube videos by the legendary StarCraft commentator, Day[9]:

This one is a lot longer, and focuses on SC2, but if you got some free time I'd suggest watching it, it helped me a lot and I'm sure it will help you too :D

Hope this helps and sorry for the long post! :D

Wow, I signed up to tell you some of the best advice would be to ignore anyone telling you to dial up sensitivity to the highest, rofl. These kinds of comments come from pub level players and will be a detriment to muscle memory, and other things mentioned above. Want to get good at FPS games? Get a huge pad like the Qck+ by steelseries and follow that up by grabbing a mouse off this list http://www.esreality.com/post/2024663/mouses-using-flawless-sensors/ (at least a good optical sensor). It's worth noting that EVERY Avago ADNS 9500 has a positive acceleration flaw and it's worth looking into the sensor you're getting, as this laser sensor is found in many desktop mice falsely labeled as gaming on the market. The reason laser mice are a fraud is because nearly every pro/semi-pro FPS player uses anywhere from 15-30+ inches for a 360. There's absolutely no need for anything over 2500 dpi unless you start to get into the 4k resolutions, lol. This is compounded by the fact that nearly every laser in existence contain flaws that affect tracking and precision. (Note, this is in regard to FPS, not RTS or any other genre, where I could see the use of high dpi). Also, you'll want to look into .ini setups (changing your config files) to maximise fps to at least 60 in any game you're looking to be competitive in.

TL;DR Get a big mousepad, a GOOD mouse, and make your game look like crap in order to get high accuracy.

This a million times. I am using Microsoft WMO and its great but its flaws is it doesn't have 2 side buttons that deathadder has.

1.Use these settings in your control panel and never change them:

iOhGp13.png

2.Download mouse fix:

http://donewmouseaccel.blogspot.com/2010/03/markc-windows-7-mouse-acceleration-fix.html

3.Get a mouse pad like:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/SteelSeries-Surface-QcK-Heavy-PC/dp/B000V7ARAU/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1369223712&sr=8-2&keywords=steelseries+qck+heavy

4.Get a mouse that is on the list "infallday" linked:

http://www.esreality.com/post/2024663/mouses-using-flawless-sensors/

5.Set your dpi somewhere between 400-1800.

6.Turn off all mouse accelerations in games you play.

7.You can try in CS GO to play at 3.5 - 4 (sens) until you are comfortable to switch to something lower like 1.5 - 2.

8.Use m4 and ak do 2-3round bursts and between them move left and right, and aim for the head.

Hope this helps you.
