Hey Forum,

I'm gunna be picking up a Noctua NH-D14, But i'm worried that the air flow in my R4 will get disrupted because the cooler is so big.

Current Fan orientation:

Intakes

2x 140mm front

1x 140mm side

1x 140mm bottom

Exhausts

2x 140mm top

1x 140mm rear

Any recommendations for different fan setups are welcome.

I was thinking about doing a rear intake and have the NH-D14 pull from the back with the top also changed to intakes and front to exhausts.

I would go with the same intakes and change the rear to intake aswell.

You don't need that many fans, especially the side intake, unless you are running two or more high end AMD video cards.

One of the main selling points of the Define R4 is the sound dampening performance.  If you max out on fans, you essentially nullify that benefit.

2x 140mm front

1x 140mm bottom

Exhausts

1x 140mm rear

That's what I would suggest.  Test out both configurations and note the temp differences and noise difference.

Long story short, make all the fans intake except for the rear (keep it as exhaust)

Your orientation sounds perfect as it is.

My old orientation was the exact same as what you're planning and it worked a treat (now I'm missing a top exhaust but that'll be resolved soon enough).

I disagree with having only one exhaust with 4 intakes.
