Well that all depends on what you want. If you want 5.1 or 7.1 surround, look at something like the Corsair Vengeance 1500. If you just want stereo, look at the Corsair Vengeance 1300, Razer Kraken Pro (i have these. very good), or the Steelseries Siberia V2 if you want a USB stereo headset. However, if you want a wireless headset, look to spend more than $100 on something like a Logitech G930 or Corsair Vengeance 2000.

I have a Turtle Beach Earforce X12 and I'm absolutely enamored by it. It's pretty cheap and I have no complaints about the mic or speakers.

really? i hated the x12 thought it was a terrible piece of equipment, half assed sound pretty much only suited for gaming and nothing else, and it was so uncomfortable o.O, my ears would be red itchy and the skin flaking off from the uncomfortable small cups on the headset.

if you want a gaming headset you can use for pretty much everything i would go for the 7h, it has pretty ok sound quality overall, as in not just super bassy and useless for anything else than gaming, The headset really suprised me when i tried it for the first time myself. and if my memory doesn't cheat on me i think it was pretty light aswell which made it easier to wear for hours at a time.

Perhaps the sound seems better to me because I was used to so much less...

I have no problem with the ear cup size, but in reply to that: do you have that problem with many headsets? I ask because the top of my head begins to hurt on most headsets after extended gaming sessions (my head is egg-shaped btw).

Finally I use it almost exclusively for gaming, but I do love how my music sounds on it, and Hulu comes through well.

To add a disclaimer, I'm not looking to pick a fight or anything like that. I do, however, genuinely like my headset and will certainly upgrade to a Turtle Beach whenever I get around to upgrading.

well it mainly boils down to the depth i guess, certain parts of my ear ends up squeesed into the rock hard flat surface on the inside. And no i don't have a problem with most headsets, though i have never really been a fan of the turtle beach headsets having owned 2 different ones myself, and i think i have already expressed my opinion about the sound baiscly it's a gaming headset suited for gaming only.

All headsets except for ones made by real audio companies like Sennheiser or Audiotechnica are bad and none are in your price range. Go for Pioneer SE-A1000 or the HD518 someone mentioned earlier with either a zalman clip on, modmic, or a blue snowflake/snowball.

Astro A40's, i think ive seen them in US for that low, but IMO this would be better a mic and headset would be better.
