New Workstation Build

Go to solution Solved by MisterB02,

I'm gonna go with the 1230v3, noctua nh-u14, z97-ws, 16gb ddr3 and a gtx 780 haha. Just checked for the SLI scaling and it's not very noticeable.

Hello everyone, I am currently in the process of looking for parts to buy for my next PC, which will be a workstation for video editing and content creation. I was at first going to go the x79 route with a 4930k and the x79-e ws but I'm fairly limited by my budget, still being a student. My main purpose for this build is to be able to have a workstation that I can work on because right now my brother wants to kick my ass for hogging the gaming pc all the time. I want to get as much performance as I can while spending as little as possible.

Here were the parts that I  had picked out, don't hesitate to give your thoughts about them! It would be very appreciated!

Case: Define XL R.2.0 Black with 6 silverstone AP123s

CPU : Intel Xeon 1230v3 cooled with swiftech h220

Motherboard: Asus z97-ws

HDD/SSD: 120gb Kingston 3K with two 4tb WD Black in Raid 1

Memory: 32gb ddr3 vengeance pro

Power supply: Silverstone Strider 1000w

GPU:

Geforce Quadro 4000 or

GTX 680 4GB or

FirePro V7900 or

FirePro W7000

If you were asking yourself, yes, I am making money through my work!

Software used: Adobe CC suite

- Corsair C70 - Asus MA487TD-USB3 - Phenom II X6 1055t OC 3.6GHZ - 16GB DDR3 1600Mhz Mushkin Blackline - MSI GTX 680 4GB OC

- Patriot Wildfire 120GB - 1TB WD Caviar Black - Corsair H50

I'd get a 780 6GB.

I don't think you'll need 32gb o ram, why not go 16gb plus a 780 3gb, 600w PSU,cooler master evo 212 since the 1230v3 can't be oced, and a cheaper mobo, I don't even think that xeon works on that chipset.

That sounds like a good way to go! Is there a big difference between the 780 and the 680 in cuda performance?

YES. The 780 is amazing. THink of it this way, a 680 is about equivalent in terms of performance to a 770.

THe 780 can also handle 1440p very well.

Diamond 5 in League :)

Would you go a different route with the CPU and mobo also? AMD maybe?

What's your budget? You could remove the $300+ monitor and it'll be about $2200 USD.

My budget is around 1500$. I've already got the case, fans,a gtx 680 4gb, a 700w OCZ power supply and all the gear and peripherals.

So do you want to get 680 SLI? All you really need is a Motherboard and a CPU.

That would be an amazing idea! Haven't thought about that one. Can I expect a considerable increase in cuda performance when dealing with Adobe CC software?

I'm not sure, maybe contact Adobe and ask them which programs benefit from SLI. That's the only way to know for sure unless you want to ask on the forum. :)
