If assuming the GTX 800's are cheaper than the GTX 700's were, then the GTX 880 even if it's reference. Also, aren't Asus ROG stuff really expensive? If so, then I'd rather get a newer GPU that's probably more efficient and less expensive while having similar or even lower performance.

Good point, the ROG will cost around ~$800, and the GTX 800 series will be cheaper than the GTX 700 series which is around $700.

Neither. AMD All the way, I love me some eyefinity.

To be honest I wouldn't worry about it too much. This dilemma always exists with PC tech; it's iterative, so the performance increase between for example the 780 and 880 isn't likely to be much. I could be wrong, there are surely people here who know enough about Kepler/Maxwell to give a better answer, but that's the trend.

I will never again buy an AMD card. Had two different ones both started too overheat after two years even with good cooling and cleaning.

Finally I had to RMA because I had artifacts, their inability to configure fan controller properly drives me crazy.

I rather have my cool GTX :)

That is the card I run now, It NEVER exceeds 80°c under full load, and while idling it sits just below 60°c You just need to buy the right card.

That's still too high for me, my ambient temps can go up to 32C. So I rather buy GTX that runs at 46 idling and 60 at load.

Update: It's not just me having problems with the AMD cards overheating.
