I never made a custom loop and I was wondering one thing:  why do people purchase transparent or semi-transparent GPU blocks even if it's not very visible?

Is there any particular disadvantage in placing the gpu differently?

What I have in mind is something similar to this (I'm not the author):

With a PCIe Extender and not much modding (a hole in the back to fit the bracket and some kind of support for the gpu) it seems to improve a lot the look of the loop.

So, am I missing some obvious issue with this solution (latency in the PCIe, more resistance in the loop, etc.)?

PS: if you are interested in the build from which this picture comes from this is the page to look at :D

When water cooling there is no issue with gpu orientation but when you have an air cooled card in say a vertical position (like in the silverstone raven) you should watch out for fin orientation because the heat may not be able to get out.

PS: also that case looks baller!

The case is from Parvum Systems. It's the S1.0. The one who did that rig is L3p. Highly talented and well known modder/builder.
