Hello Everyone,

Seems like I keep running into issues one after another.

This time though, I think I really *&%$^* up.

System Build:

Asus Maximus V Extreme

i7 3770k

Seasonic 1000W

GTX 680 SLI (Display 1)

GTX 580 (Display 2) - Added this so my extra displays were not pulling from the SLI setup and I wanted to use for folding.

Windows 8.1

Samsung 840 EVO 256GB - Raid 0

If more items are needed, please ask.

This whole issue started when I decided to overclock my 680's.  I followed multiple guides on how to do it and felt confident.  Left the voltage at stock and set the power draw to 138%.  I then pushed the GPU Clock Offset to +25.  Ran Heaven benchmark for about 25 minutes with no issue.  Bumped it up to +50.  Also, the fans were set to a constant 75%. About 15 minutes into this run, Display 2 started to do a flicker with distorted colors.  Stopped Heaven as quickly as possibly, but as I did that the PC restarted.  Once it booted up again I was able to log in fine.  However, once EVGA Precision X started up and kicking the fans back to 75%, both screens started to flicker and the PC restarted.  This time though, after the BIOS screen, Intel RAID, and Windows loading screen all passed, I was left with a black screen where I would log in.  Restarted the PC and the same thing happened again.  So I removed all the video cards and left one 680 in.  Started the PC, same thing.  Restarted again and was able to go back to a restore point at 6/8/2014 (Note, all video and input function worked).  This time when I restarted I was able to get to my log in screen.  Once I logged in everything started to load, luckily at this point Precision was set at default so my fan didn't speed up.  While everything was loading and the little wheel spinning, I realized things were taking to long to load.  So I tried opening control panel...nothing.  No taskbar items were clickable.  Right-click didn't work.  Nothing was interactive, the only thing  I could do was move the mouse around...joy...

Switched video cards, went back to the same restore point (only one I had), logged in, exact same thing.

I am thinking my OS might have been corrupted, video cards might have been fried (though they are able to display video so might not be it), insufficient power from the PSU, or the PCI-E lane is fried.

What do you guys think?

Once again, thanks for all the help.

-snip-

try no video card, just use intels integrated graphics.

If that doesn't work, try booting off the windows cd and see what happens

And try the gpus' in another computer (if possible)

Plugging directly to the motherboard with a HDMI cable is allowing me to log in with no issues.

Now to try and test the video cards in another PC.

Random thought...is it possible to fry a PCI-E lane?

Yes, I did that to my old board.

Lovely...going to grab an old video card and put it in that lane.  Easier step than finding my old PC.

you could always put the 680 in the second slot.

OK...put a 9800GT into the first PCI-E slot on the Asus and it gave me a black screen at the log-in page.

Put one 680 into my old PC and it booted up fine...Hurrah...

Now doing this.

Plugged the 680's into the 2nd and 3rd PCI-E slots. Still the same issue. Restore, restart, log-in, Window's version of the spinning back ball of death.

Really starting to think the OS is corrupted.  But that does not explain why the Integrated video worked.  Maybe I will remove the GeForce drivers and see what happens.

Just dawned on me that the Integrated video does not use the PCI-E slots...DUH...

I have work in 4 hours, so I am going to try and sleep.  I will continue this once I get out.

@djdwosk97  Thank you for all your help, you are a gentlemen and a scholar.

Didn't sleep.

Started the computer up with the integrated video and removed all the geforce drivers and evga software.  Powered the system off, un-plugged the integrated, installed one 680, start.  Everything started up fine, no lock-ups.  Turned off the PC and installed the second 680.  No issues.  Re-installed the GeForce drivers and everything seems to be good to go.  Going to leave the 580 out of the machine, just to be sure that wasn't the culprit when overclocking.

Will I overclock again...? ... ... ...probably.  For now I will stress the cards normally to make sure nothing else is damaged.

Sounds like a plan. Glad to hear nothing got fried, as it seems weird that drivers would've gotten corrupted and caused that issue.
